T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Disney Home Décor – It’s Not Just For The Kid’s Rooms!

Disney characters a really common theme for nurseries and kids bedrooms – and with good reason! They are fun and easy to coordinate – considering that basically EVERY store sells Disney stuff now. Speaking of Disney stuff – I am always looking for nice “grown up” Disney décor to spruce up my house – and when I went looking recently, I found some GREAT stuff:

Kohl’s just started selling this line of awesome Mickey bathroom décor – check it all out here. I especially love the Mickey “polka dot” pattern!

TGIFdecor7

I love these vintage Disney movie signs – they would look great in a family room or a media room, don’t you think? You can buy them at your local Hobby Lobby

Tgifdecor4

Hallmark sells some great Disney items – like this amazing Cinderella Carriage Silhouette – I actually have this, I received it as a birthday present last year and I LOVE it – it sits on my bedside table

Wouldn’t this be super cute in the kitchen for reminders/to do lists? Check out all the Hallmark Disney goodies here

And I shall leave you with this inspiration – from the Mouse himself…

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Happy Birthday To Me (From Me!)

Tomorrow I will be 31 years old (eek!) – and while I don’t exactly love getting older, I do enjoy all the perks that come with it – being an adult, living on my own, making my own decisions, starting my own family, being a homeowner – these are all pretty awesome! At this point, birthdays aren’t really about having a party or getting presents, but more about celebrating all that I am grateful for in my life – like my family (including my baby boy!), friends, health, job…the list goes on, and I feel lucky every day to be living this life!

   31 4

Speaking of luck – I was lucky enough as a kid to get to travel to Walt Disney World every year with my parents – the memories of these trips are ones I will always cherish, and I credit my parents as being the ones who kick-started my Disney obsession. I have traveled back several times as an adult, and enjoyed it even more than when I was a kid – which actually ended up being the inspiration behind starting this blog – showing how much fun Disney can be for everyone (not just kids!)

31 3

For me, birthdays are a great time to reflect on not only the past year, but on yourself as a person – and for me, Disney is a huge part of who I am, and I can’t wait to introduce my son to all the magic in a few years! Until then, I will be dreaming of (and writing about!) the Happiest Place On Earth!

And even though I know I said that birthdays aren’t really about presents anymore, I must admit – there are a few Disney-themed things on my VERY short birthday wish list this year…

31 2

Shutterfly is one of my favorite websites – I love the easy to create photo gifts and prints are super easy to order (you can even do it from your smartphone!), and they just recently released a new line of ready to personalize Disney items – pillows, notebooks, wall decals, placemats – they’re all cute and would make great gifts, but I have to say that the Disney photo book is really the one that stands out for me – I love the pages and the little embellishments you can add – and I am REALLY hoping my husband got me one

31 1

The Disney Alex and Ani bracelets are really popular right now, and they have a ton of cute styles (I have a few, and would love to add a few more to my collection!). Everyone needs a good mug to drink their morning coffee out of – and I am a HUGE alice in wonderland fan – in fact I have “We’re All Mad Here” tattooed on my shoulder (talk about a diehard Disney fan!), and as for the purse – well – that’s a bit of a dream – but everyone needs a Disney wish list, right? Just in case they come in to some money, or some really rich relative wants to buy you something…

While I would love to get these amazing Disney gifts for my birthday, I know that regardless of if I get Disney gifts or no gifts – as long as I have my family and friends, I know it will be great birthday, and I look forward to the year ahead of me too!

Disney Themed First Birthday Gift Ideas

    20150808_092250

My little guy is already 10 months old – which is really hard to believe because it seems literally like just yesterday that I was having my Disney baby shower and preparing for his arrival! He babbles and feeds himself (sort of) and crawls and gets into anything and everything – and it’s been an amazing journey so far!

I’ve already begun preparations for his first birthday party – which I am trying to keep low key (not an easy feat in the days of pinterest and over the top kids parties!). It will be at a local park lodge, and we will have pizza and cupcakes, and I opted for an easy zoo animals theme with fun blow up zoo animal beach balls and baggies of animal crackers as “favors”. Even though I know he will receive a TON of gifts, I still want my husband and I to get him something, and I was trying to think what he might like, and I was of course thinking about how I could start that love for Disney at an early age too….

So here’s what I came up with for possible Disney gift ideas for a 1 year old:

1bday 1

This 4 in 1 Mickey Mouse Ride On can be used as a walker/rocker, and transitions with them as they grow older. It features their favorite Disney characters, and even lights up and Mickey talks and plays music too!

1bday 2

John has this Disney Wooden Train and he loves it – and by loves it I mean “loves eating the pieces” – but I am sure once he gets older he will enjoy actually putting it together

1bday 3

Stuffed animals are great for kids of any age – and I love this Disney My First Duffy Bear – he’s nice and soft and the perfect bedtime cuddle buddy in his adorable pajamas

1bday 4

Playsets like this Disney little people Mickey and Minnie’s house Little People set are great for their imagination and role playing skills – which admittedly at 1 they don’t have much of, but for now they can play with the houses and little people and enjoy the colors and textures

A note about suggested ages: I always read the suggested age range on a toy before I buy it, but I don’t always follow it – if a toy says ages 2 and up but it doesn’t have any small or sharp pieces, chances are pretty good I will let my little guy play with it. However – that’s totally up to you as a parent or gift giver, so feel free to do whatever you feel is best!

I can’t wait to celebrate my boy turning 1 – and I can’t wait to watch him start to really “play” with toys. They may physically grow a LOT their first year, but this upcoming year is going to be a big one for developmental milestones, and I can’t wait to witness each and every one!

What about YOU – what do you like to give as gifts to your favorite tiny Disney fans?

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Mickey Shaped Foods At Home!

One of the best things about visiting Walt Disney World is getting to enjoy all the amazing FOOD they offer at the Parks and Resorts – and while I enjoy trying new things on each trip, there are some that are just classic must-do’s on every visit. The most delicious of them all are the Mickey Shaped Foods – because who wouldn’t want to bite into Mickey’s ear?

If you’ve got that post-Disney withdrawal setting in, or maybe you haven’t been in a while, then maybe you need to make some Mickey shaped foods at home!

?        Mickeyfood2

This is actually an egg/pancake ring that my husband used to make some awesome chocolate sugar cookies, but it worked great as a cookie cutter too! You can purchase it on amazon

And if you want an actual cookie cutter, Wilton makes a Mickey Cookie Cutter that you can buy at craft stores like Joann’s and Michaels, or places like Target, Walmart, and Party City have them as well

Mickeyfood3

If you’re feeling crafty, you can freehand some Mickey pancakes…

Mickeyfood4

…Or if your pancakes tend to end up looking like blobs (like mine do), then you can always try the Mickey Waffle Maker

I love that I can re-create a little piece of WDW right in my home – and the BEST part is, it’s edible!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Disney Tattoo #3?

I am a big tattoo fan – and I especially love when Disney fans express their devotion through Disney Themed Ink. I’m proud to admit that I am part of the “Disney Tattoo Club” – as I have TWO Disney-inspired tattoos:

Tat 1

Alice In Wonderland is one of my all-time favorite Disney movies – I love both the animated and live action versions, and this quote is the best – it reminds me not only of my love for the movie, but of the fact that everyone is crazy in their own way (which is oddly comforting, don’t you think?)

Tat 2

I got this Walt Disney quote a few years ago – and it’s a reminder that if you really want something, there’s always a way to make it happen for yourself

Outside

So now that I’ve got this little guy running around and making my life absolutely amazing, I want to get a Disney themed tattoo that represents him and my family

 Tat Ohana 2

The thing that immediately comes to mind is the word “Ohana” which means “Family” – and according to Lilo and Stitch “Ohana means family – and family means no one gets left behind, or forgotten” which may be corny, but I don’t care – I love it

Tat Ohana

Apparantly this is a pretty popular tattoo – as there are TONS of variations out there

Tat Ohana Drawing

Personally, I am thinking of doing something like this – with my son’s initials in the heart (please excuse the crudity of the drawing as I am NOT an artist ha!)

I love the idea of combining my love for Disney with my even bigger love for my little guy! What about YOU – do you have a Disney tattoo already, or are you thinking about getting one?

Tat Stitch

That’s right, Stitch <3

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Those Movies Are HOW Old?

I was reading recently on the Disney Parks Blog that the Lion King turned 21, and that Pocahontas turned 20 – hard to believe, as I remember when both of these first came out, and I remember going to see The Lion King in theaters!

Got me to thinking – how old are some of the other Animated Disney Classics?

SnowWhite

Snow White is the oldest – originally released in theaters in 1937

Cinderella

My absolute favorite Disney movie – Cinderella – first graced the big screen in 1950. Hard to believe that it was that long ago, isn’t it?

AliceInWonderland

Followed the next year by Alice In Wonderland in 1951

TheLittleMermaid

Jump ahead a little to this classic – released in 1989 – 26 years ago

Disney's Beauty and the Beast (1991)

This “Tale as old as time” came out in 1991

TheLionKing

In 1994 I was 10 – and vividly remember seeing this at the movies

Wreck-It-Ralph

2012 brought us the release of Wreck-It Ralph – which didn’t get much publicity as it should have in my opinion – I loved this movie!

INside Out

Disney’s newest movie was released just last week to rave reviews – will YOU be heading to see Inside Out?

These Disney Classics have stood the test of time, and I can’t wait to see what else they come up with!
