T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Birthday Planning – With A Disney Flair

 ThugLife

This week my little guy is SIX MONTHS OLD! Which may not seem very old – but it’s pretty amazing to see how far he has come, and my husband and I are so grateful for him, and we are celebrating the fact that we survived the first six months (relatively) unscathed! Now he may only be halfway to one, but as far as I’m concerned – it’s never too early to start planning for his 1st major milestone – his FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY! We booked the park lodge already, and now it’s time to think about the details – things like cake, food, and THEME are the main points of conversation now – and of course a Disney theme is a possibility, which got me to thinking – how could I do a Disney theme? What’s out there that I can use, and what can I make myself? Check out what I found…

Bday 1

An UP themed birthday is great because it’s so colorful – and it involves balloons – and what little kid doesn’t love balloons?

Bday 2

Bday 3

There’s plenty of stuff available at places like Party City, Wal-Mart, and other party stores – super cute Baby Minnie and Mickey stuff, and plenty of other Disney options too – Cars is a favorite of a lot of little boys for sure!

Bday 5

Bday 6

Bday 7

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is a show that definitely took some time to grow on me – I did NOT care for the creepy 3-D ish characters or the way Mickey’s ears don’t really move when he turns his head (strange right?), but I know how much my son likes it – the colors, the songs, and the stories are usually pretty fun and send a good message, so needless to say – I got over my dislike of it, and we watch it all the time now! It would also make a great party theme – there’s plenty of décor available out there, and you can easily compliment the Mickey items with primary colored napkins/tablecloths/balloons, etc. It’s great for boys OR girls too

Bday 4

…So maybe this isn’t good for a first birthday party, but if the kids are a bit older, wouldn’t this be fun? A Mickey Mouse bouncy house!!! Just make sure they don’t eat too much cake beforehand…

So while I mull over what his birthday party theme should be, I also need to seriously consider my cake options – check out some cake inspiration here, and while you do that I think I might go whip up a “test” cake…and since he’s too little to eat it now, I better just try it on his behalf (yum!)

My Son’s Disney Education – The (REALLY) Early Months

My little guy is already going for the Disney toys - apparently we will be playing Disney Yahtzee tonight!

My little guy is already going for the Disney toys – apparently we will be playing Disney Yahtzee tonight!

There are few things I am adamant about, but waiting until my kid is old enough to enjoy a vacation (and not need a stroller!) is one of them – as I cannot fathom toting a stroller/diaper bag/toys/blankets etc around with me at Walt Disney World, so I am opting to wait until he is about 4 to take him to the Happiest Place On Earth (well, almost 4. 3 maybe – depending on how independent he is….). This means I have approximately 3.5 years to make sure he is schooled in all that is the World of Disney. May seem like a long time, but there’s a LOT TO LEARN!

So how do I teach? Well, I have several methods.

MOVIES: This is probably the most important, and one of the easiest ways to teach kids about Disney – is to show them the works of art that Walt himself and his team of animators and Imagineers created. They may not understand much of the story, but they will love the colors, animation, and songs

BOOKS: Reading to your kids is a great habit to get into, and my little guy loves hearing stories and seeing the pictures. Most Disney classic movies are also available in book form, and they are a great way to introduce them to the joys of reading!

SINGING: Some of you may be wary of this one as not everyone has choir perfect voices, but kids generally LOVE being sung to – even if you aren’t always pitch perfect. I like to sing Mary Poppins songs to my boy, and I help him “dance” to them too

TOYS: There are SO MANY Disney toys out there – they have them at almost every store – from the grocery store, to Wal-Mart and Target and drugstores too! Make sure you pay attention to the recommended ages, so that you can be sure your little one is enjoying the right kind of toy. Personally I love stuffed animals, and so does my son – Mickey’s ears and Tigger’s nose make the best chew toys

It’s NEVER too early to teach your kids about Disney – Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself anyway. At this rate he will be more than ready for his first (of what I am sure will be many) Disney World trip!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week: Have Your (Disney) Cake And Eat It Too!

Now that I’m a mom, my inspiration for most things usually starts from something related to my son – in this case, I happened to see some birthday parties for little ones on Facebook, and not only were they all super amazing and perfectly themed, but they all had adorable cakes and cupcakes too – and it got me to thinking about ideas for my baby’s first birthday (which is many months away, but hey planning ahead is good right?) – and as far as I’m concerned, the CAKE is one of the most important parts of any party! Check out these awesome Disney themed cakes:

  Cake UP

The movie UP is such a great love story – and a cake like this would be a perfect wedding cake, don’t you think? What a way to start out your greatest adventure yet!

Cake Smash

A baby’s first birthday party wouldn’t be complete without a smash cake would it? Something simple and not too intricate like this one would be perfect (after all, it’s just going to wind up all over their hands – and face, hair, feet, probably the floor and walls and…well, you get the idea)

Cake Princess

I love this Princess cake – subtly celebrating some of Disney’s most beloved characters and movies! I also enjoy that it’s not over the top frilly or glittery or extra girly – its classy and fit for royalty!

Cake Shower

And of course – I HAVE to mention the cupcakes my mother in law made for my own amazing baby shower (yeah, those are brownie Mickeys in them – aren’t they amazing?!)

frozen8

Ok – so let’s be real here – not everyone is as crafty as my mother in law (like me, for example…), but luckily, most grocery store bakeries have the ability to add some Disney magic to their sheet cakes – with designs like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Pooh and Friends, and yes – even Frozen – this means everyone can enjoy some Disney cake on their Birthday!

Ok – now I really want cake. That’s acceptable for breakfast right?

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – New Cinderella-Inspired Attire For You And Your Little Princess

 Cinderella animated

Cinderella is hands down my favorite Disney movie ever – I watched it so many times as a kid I think I wore out the tape (remember those? VCR’s, VHS tapes, rewinding…), and now even though I have upgraded to the DVD version, my love for the characters and story haven’t faded with age.

CInderella 2015

The newly released live action Cinderella movie has been pretty popular at the box office – and of course with the release of any new Disney movie comes new merchandise. Check out some of the items from the new Cinderella clothing line:

Cinderella1

Wouldn’t your little princess look perfectly adorable in this ball-inspired dress?

Cinderella2

True statement.

Cinderella3

I love the whimsy of this one – perfect for a Spring wedding

Cinderella4

No Cinderella collection would be complete without glittery glass slippers

The clothing is available exclusively at Kohl’s – check out the whole line here

How about you – are you planning on checking out the new Cinderella movie? I personally can’t wait to see Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother

T. G. I. F. Pic Of The Week – Disney Easter Ideas

It seems that there’s always some holiday I’m planning for or thinking – and now that I have a son, I want to do even more to make holiday celebrations special for him! I was thinking to myself the other day “what do you get an infant for Easter?” and obviously the easy answer is “nothing – he won’t remember it anyway” – but of course I want to get him SOMETHING, and while I’m at it, why not Disney-fy it?

Check out these awesome Disney Easter-themed gifts:

image

When I was at Disney World for Easter a few years ago, they had these super cute “easter eggs” that opened up into stuffed Easter Mickey and Minnies – aren’t they adorable?

image

A fun craft would be to make your own Disney Easter Basket to put all your dyed eggs in!

image

Stores like Walmart, Target, and Drugstores have these awesome pre-made Easter baskets filled with candy and toys and they come in a big variety of characters to choose from

image

Amazing personalized baskets brimming with Disney goodies can be purchased (and delivered to your house!) from Disney Floral & Gifts

If you need some ideas on what to stuff your Easter baskets with, check out these Egg-stra Magical Disney Easter Gift Ideas

As for me – I’m still trying to figure out what to get my little guy for Easter. I’m thinking something he can put in his mouth as that is his current fave (poor kermit…)
