Disney With Toddlers – The Stroller Dilemma

It has been SO LONG since I have had time to write a non TGIF post for this blog – just – wow. As a mom you always feel like there’s about 847 things pulling you in every direction, requiring – no – DEMANDING your attention – and it’s hard to find time for much aside from the day to day. Not an excuse – just reality

Toddler life is intense – but AMAZING. I get to watch this guy learn and grow every day!

And in less than a year, we’re all headed to Walt Disney World for our first family trip – and I can’t WAIT. I am pretty close to starting to count down the days (even though we aren’t going until next September!) – as I can’t wait to get back to my favorite place in the world, and to show my son all the Magic!

There is ONE thing that is starting to pose somewhat of a dilemma though – and it’s how to answer this question – to Stroller or not to Stroller?

Should we bring our stroller to Disney World?

Why I am thinking “Yes”
-An average day at the Disney Parks means WALKING – MILES AND MILES of it – and as strong and big as he is -I KNOW he cannot handle walking as much as we do in Disney – he will get tired and cranky and the stroller is the perfect thing to help prevent that
-I can stash my crap in the bottom of the stroller – no backpack lugging for me! Plus – strollers have cup holders
-Snacks on the go – gives him the chance to eat while we stroll – even has the built in tray and cup holder on the front of it
-Airport ease – The Disney Parks aren’t the only place that are HUGE – walking from one gate to another for a connecting flight at a bigger airport (like Atlanta – which is typically where we connect through) could potentially be a disaster with an un-strollered toddler in tow. Stroller makes it easier and faster to get from point A to point B
-He’s comfortable in it – he likes sitting in it, he’s used to it, it’s easy to push/maneuver

Why I’m thinking “No Way”
-Airport issues – while it may help you make your connecting flight in time, the stroller can also be a pain when it comes to air travel. It has to be inspected at security, and each airline has a slightly different procedure when it comes to checking strollers. Most gate check them, which means in theory you get it back right when you get off – but that can be a process that takes time, and there’s always the potential for the airline to “misplace” it accidentally
-Stroller parking lots – Outside every ride at Walt Disney World is a huge area FULL of strollers – since you obviously can’t bring it inside the rides with you, you’re forced to leave it alone outside – but you wouldn’t want to leave your valuables with it, so then that means toting those along with you on every ride, and then there’s always the (super slim but still it exists) possibility that your stroller could get damaged or stolen while you’re away from it
-It’s huge. I mean – it’s a normal size for a stroller, but let’s face it – all strollers are huge, cumbersome, and awkward to carry when folded up – and that on top of luggage can quickly turn into a huge ordeal
-Dragging it around is going to be a pain – folding it up and carrying it on the buses/monorails/boats…

I could go on and on about the pros and cons – but at the end of the day, I am pretty sure I am leaning towards sucking it up and bringing the stroller along to Walt Disney World. It really will be useful to have, and will help my son get to enjoy more of the Disney experience

And hey – it’s not like I’m alone – there will be plenty of other parents toting around their toddlers strollers and loving every minute of it! And if all else fails – there’s always wine.

Hopefully in the coming months I will be able to make more time to devote to writing about Disney – I mean, I think about it enough, shouldn’t be that hard to put those thoughts to paper, right? In theory anyway…We shall see. #WishMeLuck

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  xmas16-2

I may not be celebrating Christmas Day at Walt Disney World this year, but I am lucky enough to have done so a few years back – it was the best Christmas of all time – until my son came along, of course!

xmas16-3

Now it’s all about him, and watching him grow and learn to enjoy the holiday – from Santa, to presents, to traditions, to the true meaning of the holiday – I have the honor of getting to teach him all about all of it!

From my little family to you and yours – Merry Christmas – may your day be merry, bright, and full of love and laughter!

TGIF! And here’s hoping Santa is good to you all! Now if you will excuse me – there are some Christmas Cookies calling my name…

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – The Ultimate #FBF

A Little flashback on this Friday – to when I was just a wee one…

 20160322_100600

I was destined to love Disney from a young age – since I’ve been dressing the part for over 30 years

??????????????

I remember when a new Disney Store opened, or sometimes they had special events – and they would bring in characters and you could do a meet and greet – just like at the Parks!

Here’s a few from my family’s (MANY) Disney trips over the years:

When you went on a Fishing trip at Disney, they used to take Polaroids of you with your catch (that was in the pre digital days, of course)

I give this guy (my dad) a LOT of credit – not only did he plan a yearly trip to Disney World for us, but he was a pro at finding characters and planning things so that I got to meet all my faves. And this was in the days before the internet, before you could just pull up an app on your smartphone to tell you where Mickey would be – so he really put a lot of work into making these trips awesome for us all

T.G.I.F Pic Of The Week – Celebrating TEN YEARS With My Love

Warning: This post is not strictly Disney related, and it is also a bit lovey-dovey. There. You’ve been warned. That being said, I couldn’t NOT post about this milestone though – as it’s not every day you celebrate TEN YEARS of togetherness with the man of your dreams

FB_IMG_1456752693383

We met in college, and have been inseperable ever since – even surviving over 2 years of it being a long distance relationship

FB_IMG_1456752764970

We got engaged in February 2009

FB_IMG_1456752912919

…And married in June 2010

FB_IMG_1456752925037

With a honeymoon at Walt Disney World (naturally!)

FB_IMG_1456752967653

But Disney isn’t the only place we go together – we’ve been on several cruises – because what’s better than lounging in the sun with a delicious cocktail? Not much, that’s for sure!

FB_IMG_1456752991124

Ok, so there were several trips to Disney – but what do you expect from a Disney Addict like me?

FB_IMG_1456753070876

And what would a family be without a dog? This little guy is not so little anymore – he’s almost 4 and weighs 80 pounds now! We named him Walter – after Mr. Disney, of course!

FB_IMG_1456753017021

This little guy has been our greatest achievement thus far, for sure – he amazes us every day!

FB_IMG_1456753032079

He’s now 16 months old, and he runs around and is so close to talking – and we cannot WAIT to introduce him to the magic that is Walt Disney World!

My man and I have been through a LOT in the past ten years – some of it bad, most of it good – and all of it memorable! I cannot wait to make many more decades worth of memories with this man – including trips to Walt Disney World (among other things, ha)

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week: My Favorite Disney Moments With My Favorite Birthday Boy

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVE to my amazing husband – he is not only all around awesome at being married to me (not always an easy task I am sure), but he’s a great dad and friend too! We have had a lot of great times together, and we have been blessed enough to be able to travel to Walt Disney World 4 times together – here’s a recap of some of my fave Disney moments with my fave guy:

PartyOfTwo

There were many delicious meals shared at WDW with my man – we both love trying new foods, and Disney has some amazing restaurants – so it’s the perfect place for foodies like us!

There’s no better place to be than The Magic Kingdom, am I right?

Posing with characters is fun no matter how old you are

The couple that rides Star Tours together, stays together (or something like that…)

Ok, I know this one isn’t a Disney picture – but the cuteness makes up for that, right? I am so grateful for my family and can’t wait to make more Disney memories with them

TGIF – and HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREW – may your day be as amazing as you are!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Why I Love Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

When you’re trying to decide where to stay at Walt Disney World, the choices can become overwhelming – they have so many great Resorts to choose from that it can be tough to narrow it down! Personally, I love Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground – and here’s why:

FW sign

FW Pool

FW site

It’s a beautiful place – large, well-kept campsites, great pools, tons of wooded trails, and maybe best of all it’s quiet and peaceful – it’s a great place to relax and enjoy nature, and best of all you’re in the middle of all the Disney action!

FW movie

The nightly fireside sing sing along and movie is a great family activity – and oh – did I mention it’s hosted by Chip and Dale? I LOVED this as a kid – getting snacks and singing songs and then watching a Disney movie – doesn’t get any better than that!

FW TE 2

Fresh nature air makes me hungry – so I like to head over to Trail’s End – the on-site restaurant that serves up a delicious buffet of items like fried chicken and biscuits (there’s a lot more than that, but those are my favorites and they still make me drool to this day!)

FW Cabin

If you’re not sure about the whole camping/”roughing it” thing – don’t worry, Disney’s got you covered – you can stay in one of their cabins which include electricity, a TV, a bathroom, and a kitchen (utensils/cookware included!) – so you can still stay in nature, but with all the comforts of home

We stayed at Fort Wilderness a bunch of times when I was younger – I loved everything about it, and can’t wait to go back with my son when he’s older. It’s a great Resort choice for those who don’t want to stay in a traditional “hotel” room, plus you can’t beat the scenery!
