When Is The BEST Time To Go To WDW?

image8

I get asked this a lot – people always want to know when is the best time to travel to Walt Disney World – and let’s be real – what they are REALLY asking is when is the cheapest/least crowded time to go. I can’t blame them – Disney is expensive, and the crowds can really put a damper on your fun (that you paid so much for). So, in the interest of saving money and attempting to avoid the crowds, here are my top three best times to visit WDW:

Early December: The crowds won’t be super light at this time, so you might be wondering “why rank this as a top choice?” and that would be solely based on the Christmas decorations. That’s right – they are THAT amazing – the decorations, the live entertainment and Christmas music, the huge Christmas trees at each Park, the gingerbread displays, the Christmas/holiday themed food – it’s all amazing, and worth braving a bit of a crowd for. If you’re a huge Christmas fanatic (like me!) I highly recommend you consider an early December WDW trip. While going the week of Christmas may seem appealing – I advise you to resist the urge – as the Resort prices are higher, and the crowds are INSANE – so earlier in the month is generally a much better choice

Late September/Early October: This time of year at Disney World is great for a lot of reasons. The attendance numbers tend to be some of the lowest of the year, due in part to the return of most kids to school in September (and parents not wanting to take their kids out of classes so soon after they have just begun!). The weather is mild (still warm but not as painfully hot and humid as the summer months), and fall season is in full swing at the Parks! There are pumpkins everywhere you turn, plus seasonal fall foods are offered around the Parks too (pumpkin flavored items galore – yum!). If you’re a big Halloween fan, this is the perfect time for you to go to WDW – as Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party begins in late September and runs through October. The Party includes trick or treating, a special Halloween themed parade, and plenty of character meet and greets as well

Early May: Statistically this is one of the best times to go to WDW, as the attendance numbers tend to be some of the lowest of any other time of the year. And since it’s not a “peak” time – the prices to stay at WDW are lower, too! If crowds are your main concern when planning your Disney trip, then this is your time to go! The weather is great too – you might see some rain, but overall, spring at Disney is warm (but not hot!) and sunny, which means you’ll be able to get in plenty of pool and water park time

So there they are, my top 3 Best Times to travel to Disney World. Obviously, this is just my opinion and you might have a totally different experience or other thoughts on the matter – but from what I have seen, these are the best. I would love to know what YOU think thoughwhat’s your favorite time to travel to WDW (aside from ANYTIME, of course, ha!)

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – 2016 Disney Vacation Must-Do’s

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope you all had a great time ringing in the new year, and that you are looking forward to starting fresh today and having the best year yet!

If you’re planning on heading to Walt Disney World in 2016, then you will definitely want to add these to your list of “Disney Vacation Resolutions” – as they are ALL Must do’s:

Norway   Epcot’s Norway is being expanded to include the new Frozen meet and greet attraction – where your little princesses will get the chance to hobnob with royalty – none other than Anna and Elsa!

Soarin

Soarin’ is getting overhauled – a third theater and new ride experience that takes you “around the world” make this one a must-see

ToyStoryMania

Toy Story Midway Mania will be getting a third track in 2016 – which will help cut down on the (sometimes REALLY LONG) waits, so if you haven’t checked this one out yet, 2016 will be a good time to give it a try

STK

Any steak fans in your family? You’ll definitely want to check out the new STK steakhouse in Downtown Disney that’s opening in Spring of 2016

As part of the largest expansion in its history, Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park will be adding all-new entertainment experiences including a new after-dark spectacular centered around and above Discovery River, new nighttime entertainment including live performers on Discovery Island (pictured) and a new night version of Kilimanjaro Safaris. (Concept art, Walt Disney Imagineering)

Animal Kingdom will be adding a “Rivers of Light” nighttime show, which will be just one of the many changes aimed at turning the park into an “after dark” destination

There are so many amazing changes coming to the Happiest Place On Earth in 2016 – and I don’ know about you, but I can’t wait to experience them all! Here’s hoping I can stick to my Resolutions this year….

TGIF – and HAPPY 2016!!!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – In Honor Of Christmas (Part II)

Last week I wrote about how lucky I am to have traveled to WDW TWICE at Christmastime – and I shared some of my favorite memories from those trips with you. Since today is Christmas Day – I thought it would be fun to share some pictures from our Christmas day in Disney World:

This giant Gingerbread tree looked good enough to eat (thankfully it was blocked off or else I might have tried to take a nibble…)

Mickey shaped snacks are the best ones, aren’t they?

It’s sad this is the last year for the Osbourne Spectacle of Lights – I am SO GLAD we got to see them be lit on Christmas Day – it was the best experience of the whole trip by far!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – In Honor Of Christmas (Part I)

Christmas is just ONE WEEK AWAY – hard to believe that another holiday is here, and that 2015 is quickly coming to an end!

DSC_0785

It’s been quite a year for us – watching my baby boy grow from a 3 month old to a running, screaming, smiling, cuddling toddler – it’s been the most amazing thing, and I am so grateful for it

I am also so grateful for the memories I have of Christmas’ past – especially my Disney Christmas memories from our 2 trips to WDW in December 2011 and 2013 – there’s nothing quite like waking up at Walt Disney World on Christmas morning! Here are some of my favorite memories from those trips:

 XmasCastle

Cinderella’s Castle gets a gorgeous Christmas makeover

XmasParade

Mickey, Minnie, Duffy, and SNOW – what a perfect night!

XmasPartySign

We were lucky enough to get to go to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party back in 2011 – it was so fun!

AKL XMAS TREE

The Christmas Trees at all the Resorts and Parks are so beautifully decorated

xmasgingerbreadman

…Gingerbread Mickey, anyone?

Xmas COllage

Lights, trees, gingerbread – all the elements of a classic Christmas combine at WDW to make an amazing holiday!

While I know I can’t spend every Christmas at Disney, I hope that someday we can bring our son there and let him have the thrill of waking up to breakfast with Mickey on Christmas morning – I couldn’t think of a better present!

Here’s hoping you’re out there making memories, enjoying family, and that your shopping is all done (and if not, don’t worry – you still have a week. And overnight shipping options)

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – My (Other) Favorite Time Of The Year To Visit WDW

I wrote recently about why Halloween is the Perfect time to visit WDW – and while I totally stand behind all my reasons, I must admit – I have a real soft spot for Disney at Christmastime, too – they start the evening of Halloween and work through the night to remove the fall and pumpkin décor and get right into that Christmas spirit starting November 1st. Here’s some highlights of what you will see at Christmastime at Disney World:

IMG_6919

IMG_7031

First of all, there’s gingerbread everywhere – literally. Houses made of it, displays – and don’t worry – they sell it to eat too (otherwise that would just be cruel!)

IMG_6624

    IMG_6922

   IMG_7118

HUGE, beautifully decorated trees at every Park and Resort

IMG_6901

IMG_7135

And lights GALORE – display after display, and the castle gets a little sprucing up for the season too – in the form of 200,000 LED lights that change color and create an amazing sight!

IMG_6650

Characters dress up too

IMG_6757

And it’s always good to have an accurate Christmas countdown, too (1 day until Santa!)

Why isn’t Christmastime my #1 FAVORITE time to visit WDW, you might ask? Well – the main reason is that it is SUPER CROWDED during the weekends and the week of Christmas – and while I loved it, I can see why it would NOT be ideal for most people with families/kids, or anyone traveling there for the first time. Also, holiday Resort room rates tend to be higher…not exactly budget friendly. But it sure is pretty, isn’t it? It’s a truly magical, special experience that is worth the extra money and braving the crowds at least once in your lifetime – trust me!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Why Halloween Is The PERFECT Time To Visit WDW

While every day at WDW is sure to be an amazing one, there are certain days/times of the year that are more magical than others. Personally, I LOVE Disney at Christmastime – the decorations, the food, the sounds, the smells – it’s all amazing! BUT – it is also one of the BUSIEST times of the year at the Parks, with crowds so thick that the wait time for Space Mountain is 2.5 hours or more…so understandably, not everyone would jump at the chance to head there in late December.

All things considered, the perfect time of year for visiting WDW is really around Halloween time – the crowds are lighter, the weather cooler, and the décor and atmosphere is just as amazing (if not more so!) than at Christmas! Check out these shots of Halloween at WDW:

Halloween 1

Trick or treat, meet and greet with characters, and enjoy an exclusive parade – all of this and more can be found at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Halloween 3 Halloween 2 Halloween 5

The décor is really amazing at this time of year – they go all out with pumpkins and fall theming everywhere!

Halloween 9 Halloween 8 Halloween 6 Halloween 7

And what would a Halloween celebration be without themed treats? Decorated and delicious – these will delight those of all ages (not to mention make me drool all over my keyboard…)

I can’t WAIT to bring my son to experience Halloween at Walt Disney World – I just know he will find it as amazingly magical as I do!
