T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – POP Century Room Renovation Nearing Completion – Check Out The Finished Product!

A few weeks ago I wrote about the renovation that is currently underway at Disney’s Pop Century Resort (Check out the “Before” and “In Progress” Photos Here)

Looks like they are really making headway on the project – as there are some rooms that are fully done! Check it out:POPFinished

What do you think of the new design? Does it inspire you to run out and book a trip for 2018?

I personally wasn’t sure about the design at first – but I think that’s just because I was so used to the *old* room design that it was a shock to see Disney go for something this minimalist! I like it I think – and since we might stay there next year I will get to possibly check it out in person!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Ice Cream Season Is Upon Us!

Ok – before you ask – YES – Ice Cream Season is a real thing – very very real. It’s when the weather gets unbearably hot – and sticky, and humid – and the ONLY cure comes in the form of ICE CREAM-Y GOODNESS!

Ice Cream Baby.jpg

My son is a BIG fan of ice cream season (in case you couldn’t tell!)

The summer months here in Upstate NY where I live can be HOT HOT – humid and wet and just unpleasant – but we can’t hold a candle to what they deal with down south in Florida!

ponchos

Ponchos are a must when traveling to Disney in the summer – don’t want to get caught in the rain without one!

If you decide to head to Walt Disney World in the summer months – I bid you much luck – as the crowds can be intense, and it rains most days (better remember your ponchos!), and it’s HOT HOT HOT all the time – with humidity that is so thick it can be cut with a knife.

mickeybar.jpg

While it may not be ideal for some travelers, luckily – ice cream season is in FULL SWING at Disney World in the summertime. Aside from the iconic Mickey Ears Ice Cream bar, here are some awesome ice cream-y treats you can cool off with at Disney:

IceCream

My husband and I love going to get the Gold Rush Sundae from the Ghiradelli Ice Cream shop in Disney Springs – it has freshly made chocolate and peanut butter sauces – and while we normally share it I could easily finish off one of my own any day

DoleWhip

Ah, the Dole Whip – a frozen treat so iconic it has an almost cult-like following – and with good reason! Pineapple flavored soft serve, alone or paired with pineapple juice for a delicious float – it really is the perfect treat on a hot day

KitchenSinkBig

Beaches And Cream is home to this ULTIMATE Ice Cream Dessert – The Kitchen Sink – which comes with tons of ice cream, toppings, and even a WHOLE CAN of whipped cream! It’s made to serve 4 people, but you can definitely split it among more than that (especially if some are kids!)

KitchenSinkMini

Now, if you aren’t up to eating an entire sink’s worth of ice cream – there’s a miniature version available at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor – and the best part is you get to take the little sink home with you!!!!

There are really like hundreds of amazing Ice Cream treats at Walt Disney World – these are just a few of the best – and even though summer isn’t my favorite time to visit Disney, I would still go there during those months if I could – just to get my hands on these amazing treats!

What about you – how do YOU cool off in the hot summer heat?

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – POP Century Gets A Modern Update

One of the ways Disney keeps people coming back to their Parks and Resorts again and again is by keeping things fresh – changing stuff up, implementing new and exciting things for guests to experience. And over time, even hotel rooms can get stale and boring – so Disney is always continually working on remodels/refurbishments of not just rides and attractions, but of the Resort hotel rooms, too!

PopRoom1

Currently, Disney’s Pop Century Resort is undergoing a major re-model – and the room design is changing A LOT – above is the “Before” pic (aka how the rooms currently look), and below are some shots of a room in the process of being re-done:

Pop room2Pop room3Poproom4Poproom5

I honestly was shocked when I saw these pics – what a change from the standard Value Resort rooms we have come to know and love! The new rooms will feature laminate floors (bye, carpet!), and standard rooms will now feature a Queen bed and a pull-down full sized bed. Obviously these are “work in progress” photos – so I am sure there will be more décor and other touches to come – as they just recently started the work, and will be working on it for the next year with a target completion date of May 2018

What do you think of the new room design? Personally – I hope they add some more décor and other stuff to it – it’s SO plain as is, but I am excited to see the finished product, and I love how much effort Disney always puts into re-designing things, to make things even better for it’s guests!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Top 3 Non Ride Activities For Toddlers At The Magic Kingdom

I started this blog as a way to share experiences, tips, and reasons why Disney is the perfect place for adults – and I still fully believe that adults can have just as much (if not MORE) fun than kids at Walt Disney World – but now that I have a little one myself, my focus has shifted somewhat – from Disney for adults to Disney for the whole family – making sure vacationing at Disney World is worthwhile and fun for everyone – no matter what age. I still love the experiences I have had and will have as an adult WDW traveler – but now I need to make sure that my little guy is having the time of his life too! And let’s break it down – the reality is that if the kids are having fun, then the adults can relax and have fun, too!

If your kid(s) aren’t really into “rides”, then you may think Disney Parks are not the best place for you to vacation – well – you’re WRONG for sure – as there is SO much more to do and see there than just the rides! And even the younger ones who aren’t ready for/don’t like rides can still have a blast! Read on for my picks for top non ride activities at the Magic Kingdom for Toddlers:

Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station: This fun filled area is located over by the train station in Storybook Circus, and it’s a circus-themed water play area – featuring mist, animals that spray water, and more! Your littler ones will love it so much that they won’t want to leave! It’s a perfect place to cool off on a hot Florida day (and SO many of them are so very hot!!)
Tip: bring along a spare set of clothes/swim diapers in case your little one gets a bit soaked

Swiss Family Treehouse: Adventureland is home to this attraction – where you embark on a walk through tour of the Robinson’s famous home – nestled high inside a towering tree. Not only will your toddlers love exploring the different rooms, and bonus – they might actually learn something in the process! The view from the top (116 steps UP to be exact!) is breathtaking, and makes you feel as though you are on top of the world!

Country Bear Jamboree: This is a classic attraction – a bunch of animatronic bears who sing and play instruments, and tell jokes, too! Ok – the attraction itself is a bit outdated, but it’s one that Walt himself helped create (not many of THOSE left these days!) and little kids just LOVE it – the bears, the music – it’s a winner for sure! Plus – it’s inside so it’s air conditioned, and you get to sit down for the length of the 16 minute show – and those are both huge parent wins in my book

Can’t wait to introduce my toddler to these awesome attractions – I just know he will love them!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week: FINALLY Headed Back To WDW!

My husband and I have been talking for a while now about the best time to bring our son to experience the Magic of Walt Disney World for the first time – and I think we finally landed on Fall 2018 – he will just have turned 4, which is when I went for the first time. To say I am excited is an understatement – not only is a vacation must needed, it’s MUCH wanted too! It’s been a while since I have been to Disney – and while I have been keeping up on the goings-on and such, I know that there will be some BIG changes in store for me – and here are the two I am most excited about:

SWland2SWland1

Star Wars Land – this is the largest ever single-themed land expansion to ever break ground at the Disney Parks, and the opening technically isn’t set to be until sometime in 2019, but I personally am keeping my fingers crossed for an early soft opening, or perhaps portions of it opening up before that so we can check it out while we are there! It will be a totally immersive experience, and you can even have the chance to step aboard the Millennium Falcon and pilot it – eek! How awesome!

Avatar2Avatar3

Pandora – World of Avatar – This land is slated to open later this month at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and it celebrated the “Magic Of Nature” – with a journey through the rainforest, and much more!

I can’t wait to check these both out – and to experience everything else Disney has to offer – both new and classic!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – My Top Disney Souvenir Picks

I don’t know about you, but I personally am a big fan of souvenir shopping. I love checking out what different shops have to offer, and then picking out the perfect item(s) to memorialize my trip with! Disney World has got to be one of the best places ever to shop for souvenirs – they have tons of shops that offer plenty of unique items for you to choose from. Over the years, I have developed a list of items that are the Perfect Disney Souvenirs:

photos CastleNight

Number one souvenir that I strive to get as many of as possible while at Disney is PHOTOS – what better way to remember your trip than with a ton of great pictures? Personally my faves are ones taken in front of the castle, or with characters – and I love displaying them once I get home, too – in frames and albums mostly, but there are plenty of unique ways to display Disney trip photos

Mugs PrincessMug

I LOVE mugs (and personally think that a Disney Mug makes coffee taste better) – so I always try and find a funky new one to bring home with me from each trip.
**Side note for those who don’t use mugs – there are tons of great water bottles/drinkware available at the Parks too!

Pins Muppets

Ok, so – I know what you’re thinking – “ugh pins – I don’t collect those, that’s a stupid souvenir” – and I used to think that too! I started collecting a few years ago when I spotted an adorable Fozzy Bear wearing mickey ears pin on someones backpack – and of course that only came in a set with 7 other Muppet character pins – and so it began. I want to point out though – I am not really that into “pin trading” or getting the newest “limited edition” pins – I tend to just collect ones with a meaning/memory attached to them – like my Main Street Trolley pin that I bought after we had the chance to be the first people to ride it one morning. So, knock it if you want – but there are some pretty cool pins out there!

What About You – What are your “go to” Disney souvenirs?
