Disney With Toddlers – The Stroller Dilemma

It has been SO LONG since I have had time to write a non TGIF post for this blog – just – wow. As a mom you always feel like there’s about 847 things pulling you in every direction, requiring – no – DEMANDING your attention – and it’s hard to find time for much aside from the day to day. Not an excuse – just reality

Toddler life is intense – but AMAZING. I get to watch this guy learn and grow every day!

And in less than a year, we’re all headed to Walt Disney World for our first family trip – and I can’t WAIT. I am pretty close to starting to count down the days (even though we aren’t going until next September!) – as I can’t wait to get back to my favorite place in the world, and to show my son all the Magic!

There is ONE thing that is starting to pose somewhat of a dilemma though – and it’s how to answer this question – to Stroller or not to Stroller?

Should we bring our stroller to Disney World?

Why I am thinking “Yes”
-An average day at the Disney Parks means WALKING – MILES AND MILES of it – and as strong and big as he is -I KNOW he cannot handle walking as much as we do in Disney – he will get tired and cranky and the stroller is the perfect thing to help prevent that
-I can stash my crap in the bottom of the stroller – no backpack lugging for me! Plus – strollers have cup holders
-Snacks on the go – gives him the chance to eat while we stroll – even has the built in tray and cup holder on the front of it
-Airport ease – The Disney Parks aren’t the only place that are HUGE – walking from one gate to another for a connecting flight at a bigger airport (like Atlanta – which is typically where we connect through) could potentially be a disaster with an un-strollered toddler in tow. Stroller makes it easier and faster to get from point A to point B
-He’s comfortable in it – he likes sitting in it, he’s used to it, it’s easy to push/maneuver

Why I’m thinking “No Way”
-Airport issues – while it may help you make your connecting flight in time, the stroller can also be a pain when it comes to air travel. It has to be inspected at security, and each airline has a slightly different procedure when it comes to checking strollers. Most gate check them, which means in theory you get it back right when you get off – but that can be a process that takes time, and there’s always the potential for the airline to “misplace” it accidentally
-Stroller parking lots – Outside every ride at Walt Disney World is a huge area FULL of strollers – since you obviously can’t bring it inside the rides with you, you’re forced to leave it alone outside – but you wouldn’t want to leave your valuables with it, so then that means toting those along with you on every ride, and then there’s always the (super slim but still it exists) possibility that your stroller could get damaged or stolen while you’re away from it
-It’s huge. I mean – it’s a normal size for a stroller, but let’s face it – all strollers are huge, cumbersome, and awkward to carry when folded up – and that on top of luggage can quickly turn into a huge ordeal
-Dragging it around is going to be a pain – folding it up and carrying it on the buses/monorails/boats…

I could go on and on about the pros and cons – but at the end of the day, I am pretty sure I am leaning towards sucking it up and bringing the stroller along to Walt Disney World. It really will be useful to have, and will help my son get to enjoy more of the Disney experience

And hey – it’s not like I’m alone – there will be plenty of other parents toting around their toddlers strollers and loving every minute of it! And if all else fails – there’s always wine.

Hopefully in the coming months I will be able to make more time to devote to writing about Disney – I mean, I think about it enough, shouldn’t be that hard to put those thoughts to paper, right? In theory anyway…We shall see. #WishMeLuck

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Happy 3rd Birthday To My Baby Boy

This weekend we are celebrating my son’s 3rd birthday – and I am just astounded at how quickly three years went by

John3 1

From a tiny, chunky smiley little guy…

John3 2

To a curious toddler who loves to laugh

John3 3

…To a funny, silly, happy, talkative 3 year old (who loves all things DISNEY, of course!)

So many amazing memories made over the past 3 years, and next year we will head to Disney World for this little guy’s first trip – and I can’t wait to make even more amazing memories with him. Watching him experience things for the first time has been so much fun – and Walt Disney World is no exception – I can’t wait to see what he likes, what makes him laugh, smile, scares him, what he wants to ride again and again – it’s so cool watching kids grow up – and I may be biased, but I think I got myself a pretty great one here.

Happy 3rd Birthday John!

Now if anyone needs me I will be crying in the corner – part sad as my baby is growing so fast, part happy as he is turning into such an amazing little man

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Unique Autograph Ideas For Your Next WDW Trip

Collecting character autographs is just one of those “Must-Do” things at Walt Disney World – there’s nothing better than a book full of the memories of meeting and interacting with your favorite Disney characters (not to mention the bragging rights that accompany it, too!). When I was a kid – “back in the day” if you will – really all we had were autograph books:

autographs1

This is like the one I used to have, and I carried it around in my neon pink fanny pack when I went to the Parks. I wish I still had it and could pass it on to my son (the fanny pack though – not so much. That can stay in the early 90’s where it belongs). Autograph books are great, but if you’re looking for a more unique way to collect signatures, check out these ideas:

Autographs2

Bring along a blank mat for a picture frame for signing, and then display it at home along with your favorite photo from the trip!

Autographs4

If you have multiple children (or adults!) who are collecting autographs, get each one the first letter of their name (wooden ones like this can be found at most craft stores). Then there’s no confusion on which letter belongs to which kid, too!

Autographs 3

This idea would require special metallic or fabric markers – but in the end would make for a pretty cool keepsake

17Autographs5

This might be my favorite idea of all – bringing along a stack of colored pieces of card stock/scrapbook paper (4×6 size would work perfectly), and having the characters each sign one, to later pair with a picture in a special photo album

Autographs5

This Disney Character Encyclopedia is what inspired me to look up new and inventive autograph ideas – as I was thinking about getting it for my son, and read some reviews that people used it for autographs – which is a great idea – each character has their own page already in the book, so why not have them sign it?

I haven’t decided what we will do for autographs when we bring my son for the first time next year to Walt Disney World – might just opt for a classic autograph book for him – but for me? One of these ideas would be perfect!

TODAY IS THE DAY (For 2018 Disney World Bookings, That Is!)

Disney World Lovers, REJOICE – as today is the day many of you have been waiting for! Historically, Disney releases vacation package information/booking ability for the following year sometime in June, and this year it is June 20th (TODAY!)

The past few years this day hasn’t really meant much to me, as I wasn’t planning a Disney World vacation in the coming year – but since we are (finally!) Headed Back to WDW in 2018, I am VERY excited about this day indeed. Plus – I love to make lists and budgets and plan things – so I know I will be heading over to Disney World’s Website today to price out my vacations (plural – both real and the dream version where we stay a Deluxe Resort and have VIP Passes…hey, it’s fun to play pretend sometimes, right?)

Happy Booking!

I’m Goin’ To Disney World!

DSC00520

I am the first to admit that I am a lucky LUCKY woman – my husband is supportive, funny, reliable, and easy-going. He knows I tend to be more of the “take charge” type, and he lets me do that without question most of the time. But when it comes to vacation planning – he has made one thing clear – that he doesn’t exactly prefer going to Disney World EVERY TIME we go away. We have gone several times together, and had a blast, but his preferences definitely lean toward exploring/seeing new places, and beaches (and who can blame him, really?)

We’ve decided to go away together next fall, and when it came time to pick a destination, we really had to do some thinking to come up with a place we would BOTH really enjoy visiting. We finally came up with a great idea – a week in Florida, with a most of it spent in Tampa – taking trips to St. Petersburg for the beach, and checking out different local restaurants/breweries in the area, and then heading to Orlando for a few days, and staying overnight at DISNEY WORLD! He will get his beaches, new places, and beer and food to try, and I will get to visit the Happiest Place On Earth with my favorite guy – what could be better?

A few snapshots of our times together in Disney – what amazing memories we have made together!

Marriage – it’s all about compromise, isn’t it? I am just grateful that we were able to come up with a trip that gives us both things that we love, and I can’t WAIT to visit both old and new places with the love of my life!

…Ok, so is it next fall yet though? Seriously, I’m ready to go NOW! Well, at least it’s not too early to start planning…I feel a list or two coming on…#ListQueenStrikesAgain

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Top 3 Disney Things I Can’t WAIT To Share

zombomeme03052016123003

I cannot WAIT to take my little guy to Disney World – and speaking of waits – this one is KILLING me! We originally wanted to wait until he turns 4 to take him, but I seriously cannot last that long – so I am attempting to convince my husband that we should go when he turns 3. Does this mean diapers? Probably. Does it mean renting/bringing a stroller? Probably….which is seriously one of my pet peeves. But the bottom line is – I want him to experience all the amazing things WDW has to offer, and to start making his own Disney memories! What am I most excited to share with him? Well, everything of course – but there are 3 things that stand out:

MainStreetCastle

The Castle – There are few things quite like this view down Main Street USA, when you’re standing right by the entrance and can see Cinderella’s Castle off in the distance…makes me tear up every time (yeah, I’m a nostalgic weirdo, it’s cool – I own that about myself)

DSCN2746

The MOUSE – I cannot wait to see what he thinks of Mickey! Of course there’s the possibility that he will scream, cry, and refuse to get near him, but I personally think he will be more curious than anything – he will want to touch his nose and pat his head, for sure. No matter how it turns out, it will be a memorable moment, for sure!

Mickeybar

His First Mickey Bar – He loves ice cream, and he REALLY enjoys making a mess – so this is the perfect treat for him! Seriously though, it’s like a rite of passage – having a Mickey Bar while watching the parade make its way down Main Street is a must-do, and I will be there to capture the moment on camera (and will have a packet of wipes on standby for the aftermath too…). I am sure he will love them just as much (if not more!) than his dad does (his smile says it all, doesn’t it?)

I am hoping to get to share these (and many more!) Disney moments with my son next fall – but I might have to exercise patience and wait another year…either way, it will be the first of many amazing family trips to the Happiest Place On Earth!
