T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Spotlight On “Pandora: The World Of Avatar”

Fans of the popular 2009 flick Avatar will soon be able to transport themselves into the scenes from the movie – with the upcoming opening of Disney’s biggest Animal Kingdom expansion to date – “Pandora: The World Of Avatar”

As you walk onto the moon of Pandora, you will feel like you’ve truly been transported to another place! A place that features 12 acres of floating mountains, exotic and colorful plants and even a bio-luminescent rainforest!

The area will feature two new rides “Avatar Flight of Passage” and “Na’vi River Journey” (pictured above)

Much of what we have seen up until now is just concept art – but as you can see, the construction is in full swing, as they prep for official opening of the World Of Avatar on May 27th. I know I can’t wait to see the finished product – how about you?

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Taking A Closer Look At The Haunted Mansion

Walt Disney World will celebrate it’s 45th anniversary soon – October 1st is the day they opened the gates of the Magic Kingdom to the public for the first time back in 1971, and in light of this, I think it’s always fun to take a look back at some of the history of the Park – especially the rides that have been open since that first opening day – like the Haunted Mansion. It’s a personal favorite of myself and my husband, we love riding it as many times in a row as we can – it just never gets old! Speaking of old – check out these vintage photos:

I LOVEEEE these photo of the Haunted Mansion being built (circa January 1971) – it’s so amazing to see something like that come together!

These are a few I have snapped over the years – including the wait on Christmas Eve, which was the longest I have ever seen it at 90 minutes (we skipped it that day, even I have my limits!)

It’s hard to believe that the Magic Kingdom has been bringing happiness to people for almost 45 years – but it’s also kinda amazing, isn’t it? TGIF!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – WDW Then And Now

old1

I love looking back at old photos from all the Disney trips I took as a kid – it’s fun to see what everyone wore back then, and it’s cool to see how WDW has changed and evolved through the photos too – check out these Disney “Then and Now” photos:

Thenandnow1 thenandnow2

Since opening back in 1971, Disney has added a TON of stuff – it used to just be the Magic Kingdom, and there were still rides under construction on opening day! Fast forward 45 years, and you’ve got 3 more Theme Parks, numerous Resort Hotels, 2 Water Parks, and a shopping/dining/entertainment district. The differences in the maps show just how much Disney World has grown

They may have jazzed the parades up a bit over the years – with some help from technology! But the thrill of the parade is still the same – getting to see amazingly creative floats, and the chance to spot your favorite characters, too!

Even the Mouse himself has gotten a few “facelifts” over the years – but that iconic silhouette remains the same, and is one of the most recognizable symbols on the planet – even my toddler knows what it is and can spot it from a distance

Magic Bands

“Back In The Day” you actually needed two tickets to get into Walt Disney World – one for the transportation system, and one to allow entry into the Magic Kingdom. Once inside, you could purchase tickets for rides/attractions individually or in booklets (which saved you a bit of money). Things today are a bit more streamlined – as there is just one cost to enter the park, and that includes all of the Park’s rides/attractions, and when you purchase the ticket, all the information is stored either on a credit card-like plastic ticket, or on your Magic Band – which is basically a bracelet with an RFID chip inside that stores all the information, and the ticket/band is then scanned for entry at the Park gates

I love learning more about the history of WDW, and I can’t wait to see how things change and get even better in the years to come!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Inside Space Mountain (WARNING – SPOILER ALERT!)

SM Outside

Ok, so if you don’t like to know how things work or to have the “magic” of a ride ruined for you, then you will probably NOT want to read on – but if you’re curious (like me!), then check out these photos of Space Mountain WITH THE LIGHTS ON:

Weird, right? I hope I never have to see if while I’m on it – because that probably means someone got hurt or something – but I think it’s really interesting to see what is inside one of my favorite rides

My List of Disney Lists

disney-world-vacation-planning

I like to make lists. That is no secret, and I do not apologize for it. Organization is important – and it’s especially important when you’re taking your family on a vacation! Forgetting something (like your cell phone charger or spare camera battery…) can impact your entire trip, so I find its best to plan ahead as much as possible. I like to make SEVERAL different lists when preparing for my Walt Disney World vacations – here’s a rundown of them:

-Souvenir List – having been to WDW many times, I know what kinds of souvenirs they have, and what kinds of things I can actually enjoy/get a lot of use out of. Kitchen items, mugs, playing cards, pens – these are the kinds of things I like to plan to buy, and having a list of what I might want to get helps keep my budget on track. I use the Disney Store website to help ballpark costs of some of the items, which helps too!

-Budget – Ok, this one isn’t really a “list”, but its still a REALLY important part of vacation planning – knowing how much things cost and about how much you will need to save is imperative. Some things I always include in a Disney trip budget are: hotel, park tickets, food costs (don’t forget tips and “adult” drinks too!), souvenirs, transportation, and incidentals (someone loses their hat, or we run out of sunscreen, etc)

-Packing list – You HAVE to make a list of what’s going to go in your suitcase – you don’t want to forget anything important! I like to make the list a few weeks before the trip, and I do it on my phone so that I can add items as I think of them. I also like to check the weather so that I know what I can expect – things like ponchos and sunscreen are always on my list, and I like to make sure I have some snacks for traveling and all my necessary chargers too. Now that I have a son too, packing has become this HUGE undertaking –and I now need a separate list so I can make sure I have everything he needs too – so if you have kids, packing lists are even more important

-Park Items – There are some items you will want to make sure you are toting along on your Park days – sunscreen, assorted sizes of Ziploc baggies, ponchos, snacks, sunglasses, and a lightweight hoodie are some of the things that go into the backpack we bring when we head to one of the WDW theme parks

-“Must-Do’s” – Before you go to Disney World, check out their official list of rides/attractions and go over it with your family. Decide which ones are on your “must do” list and make sure you have that handy while at the Parks. This should be a pretty short list – as you don’t want to try and do too much in a day or you’ll get burnt out!

-“Must-Eat” items – Disney is a food lover’s paradise – they have all kinds of cuisine and restaurants, and it’s a good idea to know what they have and what you might want to try. This is an especially good thing to do if you have any type of special diet or food allergy – it’s good to know which places can accommodate your needs

Hopefully this “list of lists” will be helpful to you– maybe you can use some (or all!) of them to help ensure your WDW vacation goes smoothly!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – New Year, New Resolutions!

HAPPY 2015! Can’t believe Christmas is over and it’s a whole new year already! I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to take on 2015 and all the challenges and good times it is sure to bring! I like to make New Year’s Resolutions, and I have come up with some for this year:

Introducing my baby boy to the world of Disney, starting with these:

TGIF NY 1

Yeah, that’s right – Disney Videos! Actual VHS tapes of basically all the classics, and not only will this introduce him to Walt’s classics, but it will also teach him what a VCR is (something he otherwise would never have known, because who uses those anymore anyway? Well, me, duh!)

TGIF NY 2

Aside from videos, it’s also never too early to teach him about the Disney Parks too – he will need a full education on what it’s like to visit the happiest place on earth, and I hereby resolve to start that education ASAP!

TGIF NY 3

Another one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to cook more and to try new recipes. Lucky for me, Disney can help me out with that, with their assortment of cookbooks that contain recipes from the Disney Parks and Resorts!

IMG_32287973495935

My last resolution is the most important to me – and that is to spend as much time as I can with my family and get to watch my baby grow into a little boy – they grow up fast, and I won’t be missing a single minute of it. Before I know it, he will be tall enough to go on all the Rides at Walt Disney World! I can’t wait to take him – but for now, I will focus on enjoying this stage of his life and helping him learn and grow

What about you – do you make any New Years Resolutions? Are they Disney related?

TGIF and Happy New Year to all!
