T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Meeting The Main Man Himself – MICKEY MOUSE!

It’s hard to believe that our Disney World trip is over – we came back last Saturday, and I personally am missing it SO MUCH – and so is my son! He has asked me almost daily if we can go back – “Mommy – after school, we can go to Disney World?” and today’s was “Mommy, we just have to get tickets, then we can go to Disney World” – well pal, I wish it was that simple – if it was, we would be there RIGHT NOW – but unfortunately, it’s a bit trickier than that…hopefully someday soon we can go back, but for now, all we can do is remember how amazing our week in WDW was – and if I had to narrow it down what was the best part, I would have a LOT of trouble, but for sure one thing that stands out in my mind is my son’s first encounters with Mickey – he was lucky enough to meet him THREE times on our trip, and he loved every one:

First time was at the Epcot Character Spot – where he was so thrilled he couldn’t stop smiling!

Then we had dinner at Chef Mickey’s – which was just as fun as I remember it being!

Final trip encounter with Mickey was at breakfast at Tusker House at Animal Kingdom – which I personally love, as I think their safari outfits are so cute!

I can’t wait to start planning our next WDW trip – and I know my son can’t wait, either!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – The Most Important Meal Of The Day!

Walt Disney World has some of the BEST FOOD I have ever had the privelege of tasting – everything is prepared fresh using the best ingredients, and it really shows in the final product.

Breakfast is no exception, they really go above and beyond at the Parks and Resorts to make sure you have plenty of options to choose from so you can start your day off right and fuel up for a day at the Parks!

TGIF Bfast CP One of my personal fave breakfast spots is the Crystal Palace – a character breakfast spot in the Magic Kingdom featuring Winnie The Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet. The food is amazing here – especially “Pooh’s Breakfast Lasagna” – which is essentially a warm berry bread pudding, and they also serve anything and everything breakfast-related – my fave are the Mickey waffles!

TGIF Bfast TuskerI tried Tusker House for the first time last year, and I have to say, I was impressed! Hosted by Donald and friends (decked out in their safari gear!), this African inspired meal serves up the classics as well as unique items like their bobotie (a spiced egg based casserole which is also served at Boma!)

TGIF Bfast POPIf you’re not in the mood for a sit down meal that early in the day, you can always grab something at your WDW Resort, like this freshly made waffle and bacon from the POP Century Resort

TGIF Bfast CRollIf the Magic Kingdom is your early morning Park of choice (it is for me!) then let your nose lead you over to the amazing smells coming from the Main Street Bakery, and grab a coffee and one of these bad boys – a warm, soft, gooey cinnamon roll

….Ok now not only do I miss Disney, but I’m starving. Breakfast time!

Character Meals – Why Adults Will Love Them Too!

Donald’s Safari Breakfast at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom was great – good food and great characters too!

So what comes to mind when you think “Disney Character Meal?” Probably a loud, crowded room full of screaming kids, and kid cuisine like chicken nuggets and mac and cheese. I am guessing you are not picturing that this is a fun place for adults to enjoy a meal, but as an adult who loves Walt Disney World, I can assure you that Disney Character Meals can be fun for everyone, not just kids!

First of all, to me, the best thing about character meals is the FOOD – many of them are buffets, and others are served family style (meaning the menu is set and brought out to you on platters, and you can have seconds or even thirds of all the yummy dishes!). Breakfast usually includes eggs, meats, baked goods, and the always delicious Mickey Waffles, while you can expect carved meats, amazing sides and delectable desserts at lunch/dinner

My husband enjoying some amazing food and Winnie The Pooh characters at Crystal Palace!

Then there is the location of the various character meals, some are in the Theme Parks, but a lot of them are hosted in the various WDW Resorts – which gives you a chance to check out all the unique and different accomodations Disney has to offer! I like to head over to the Resorts about an hour before my scheduled character meal, so I can have a chance to walk around the Resort grounds, check out the pool and resort gift shop, and take in the atmosphere to see if it’s a place I would eventually like to stay. Or, if it’s a really nice Resort, I take this time to pretend I AM staying there, since some of them are a little too expensive to stay at, but are still great places to eat!

And I don’t care how old you are, getting to meet Mickey or Cinderella or whoever your favorite character was when you were a kid is still magical, I know my parents still love it, and my face still lights up when Minnie comes over and I get to pose with her for a picture. Getting to meet characters, and being in Walt Disney World in general, takes you back to a simpler time, where your favorite characters had adventures involving villains, and where fairy tales came true. It reminds you of how great it was to be a kid, and that, to me, is the best part about getting to go to character meals.

So consider some character meals when you are booking your Advance Dining Reservations for your next Walt Disney World trip, the food, atmosphere, and character meetings make it all worth it!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Has Fun For Everyone

I will be honest, I was skeptical of going to Animal Kingdom on my Disney World trip last month. The only other time I had been there was when it had first opened about 13 years ago, and when the park first opened it wasn’t completely done and didn’t have all the attractions it has today. So, the park was half finished, it was super hot that day, and I was just entering the throes of my deep teenage angst years, so needless to say, I didn’t really want to be there and I definitely didn’t give it a fair shot.

I wasn’t really expecting much from Animal Kingdom this time around, but I will admit, I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the experience I had there.

We started off our day with breakfast at Tusker House, which was very enjoyable. The food was great – they had all the traditional breakfast items plus some interesting and exotic items, like mealie pap (similar to cream of wheat), and bobotie (a delicious sweet curried beef quiche dish).

And it was a character meal, which is always fun, we got to see Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy – all in their safari gear!

Once we were done with breakfast, we were ready to conquer the park! We got our fastpasses for Expedition Everest, then my husband and I split up from my parents, as they wanted to go ride the safari ride, and we wanted to ride something slightly more thrilling (a daring choice right after a big breakfast, I know!)

So we got in line to ride Expedition Everest, which is a roller coaster where you sit in a train that is in search of the mysterious mountain Yeti – and I have to say, I LOVED this ride!

The best part is when you come to the ‘end’ of the tracks (where the Yeti has no doubt had a hand in destroying the ride’s path!) and you have to travel backwards to get back to safety!

One thrill right after another, we decided to hit up the Kali River Rapids – where you ride in a giant inner tube down waterfalls and rapids – and where the signs caution “you WILL get wet!” and we did – but luckily it was a hot day so we weren’t wet for long!

Over the course of the rest of the morning, we did both Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids again (they were both that fun!), and we also took a trip over to DinoLand USA – where we enjoyed spending time in “Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama” – a carnival-themed area where there are midway games and rides, and we also took a ride on DINOSAUR – where we traveled back in time to meet up with some (really) old friends!

Overall everyone really enjoyed spending the morning here – there are a lot of fun attractions and things to see, and its got a much different vibe than the other Parks, it’s unique and worth a trip for sure. I know my opinion of it has certainly changed for the better, Disney has really worked hard to make it a place where all members of the family can have a good time
Probably the only drawback would be the crowds – by about 11am, it was so crowded we could barely walk around! Since it was also very sunny, we kept trying to find shady spots to take breaks in – but there weren’t that many, and by about 1pm we had had enough of the heat and crowds. Even so, we will definitely be back to visit Animal Kingdom on our next trip!
