T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Mickey’s Pumpkins “Earn Their Ears”

We are in the middle of my favorite time of year – fall! I absolutely LOVE the season and all that comes with it – apples, leaves, cool weather, and especially PUMPKINS! That orange squash is delicious and decorative, and has a ton of uses. One thing you may not know about pumpkins is that Walt Disney World grows their own – over in Epcot you’ll find the Living With The Land attraction – a boat ride that takes you through 4 greenhouses, where you’ll see a fish farm, as well as high tech and experimental growing techniques on display

Land Produce1

What once needed soil to grown can now grow on trees, vines, and in water – pretty cool right?

Nine pound lemon anyone?

Or perhaps a Mickey shaped cucumber? This one is not quite ready, but once it is, it will be delicious (and mouse shaped!)

MickeyPumpkinHere is my favorite part – the Mickey Pumpkin! These are grown in the greenhouses, and if you look in the background you can see other pumpkins that are still growing into their Mickey shaped molds, with signs that proclaim that they are “earning their ears”!

The produce grown here as well as the seafood can be tasted at the two restaurants housed within the Land – Sunshine Seasons and the Garden Grill restaurant – and the pumpkins can be found in a seasonal favorite – pumpkin soup! What a perfect way to warm up on a rainy fall day – yum!

EPCOT Celebrates The Big 3-0!

Walt Disney World’s 2nd theme park opened on October 1st, 1982, and it’s letters stand for “Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow”, and Walt designed it to represent a ‘conceptual utopian city of the future’ – and it was originally designed to be a city itself, but when Walt passed, the idea changed into a Park that would embody the ideals and values of Walt’s “Epcot city”

Guests who were lucky enough to visit Epcot today received a special commemorative button and guide map. For more information about the celebration happening at Epcot check out the Disney Parks Blog
Personally, I have grown to appreciate Epcot more as an adult – the culture of the World Showcase (and the adult beverages offered there too!), and rides like Spaceship Earth and The Land that would have been boring as a kid are actually really fascinating to me now!

Happy Birthday Epcot – and here’s to many, many more!
