T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – The Disney Things I Miss The Most

Time between vacations can seem like an ETERNITY – and this is ESPECIALLY true for time between Disney trips (because Disney World is the best place EVER to take a vacation, obviously!). Since my son was born, we have talked about taking him to WDW when he is younger but we will likely wait until he is about 4 – which is QUITE a ways away at this point, and I gotta say, there are some Disney things I am missing a LOT right now:

Mickey shaped foods just taste better. It’s a tested, tried and true fact – and if you don’t believe me, then you might want to check out some Mickey foods for yourself – like maybe a Mickey Waffle?

Shopping. Don’t judge me. I like to shop, and I like to shop at Disney World especially – checking out all the stores and seeing what new merchandise they have, and narrowing it down to see what the few things are I will bring home with me – it’s a ritual, and one that I love

This view of Main Street USA – It’s my fave place in the whole world, and I can’t wait to be back here again!

Wearing Mickey ears at work or out at the mall or the park is apparently not normal (ugh) – but wearing them at Disney is the norm, and I miss seeing heads upon heads of Mickey everywhere I look

Most of all, I just miss the feeling I get when I am at Disney – that happiness that I have come HOME. I can’t wait to get back!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Mickey Shaped Foods At Home!

One of the best things about visiting Walt Disney World is getting to enjoy all the amazing FOOD they offer at the Parks and Resorts – and while I enjoy trying new things on each trip, there are some that are just classic must-do’s on every visit. The most delicious of them all are the Mickey Shaped Foods – because who wouldn’t want to bite into Mickey’s ear?

If you’ve got that post-Disney withdrawal setting in, or maybe you haven’t been in a while, then maybe you need to make some Mickey shaped foods at home!

This is actually an egg/pancake ring that my husband used to make some awesome chocolate sugar cookies, but it worked great as a cookie cutter too! You can purchase it on amazon

And if you want an actual cookie cutter, Wilton makes a Mickey Cookie Cutter that you can buy at craft stores like Joann’s and Michaels, or places like Target, Walmart, and Party City have them as well

If you’re feeling crafty, you can freehand some Mickey pancakes…

…Or if your pancakes tend to end up looking like blobs (like mine do), then you can always try the Mickey Waffle Maker

I love that I can re-create a little piece of WDW right in my home – and the BEST part is, it’s edible!

T.G.I.F Pic Of The Week – Mickey Shaped Foods Make Eating Fun!

I’ve talked before about Mickey Shaped Foods, and for those of you who haven’t tried anything in this iconic mouse shape, and are thinking “um what’s so great about Mickey shaped foods?” – it’s hard to explain. Just try them – they are adorable, and they taste better than regular shaped food (seriously, it’s true!)

The Mickey Bar – a chocolate covered vanilla ice cream treat on a stick. It’s classic, delicious, and perfect for anyone and everyone (but you better make quick work of it on a hot day!)

Crispy on the outside, warm and soft and yeast-y on the inside (pauses to wipe up drool) – I don’t know of anyone who would turn down

Sharing CakePop

The ears of this Mickey cake pop are actually little marshmallows – isn’t that clever? The cake itself is dense and moist and delicious…hence the sharing that is bordering on a fight to see who will get the last bite…

Soft pretzels are such a great snack – and these Mickey shaped ones are big enough to share too (should you feel so inclined)

You can make your own Mickey Shaped foods at home too – with a Mickey Cookie Cutter, Mickey egg ring, or a Mickey waffle maker (I have all of these, of course – and I even have two Mickey waffle makers!)

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Free Food? Yes PLEASE!

There are few things that excite the avid Walt Disney World fan as much as the offer of FREE DISNEY FOOD! Disney announced last week that they will be running their popular “Free dining” promotion this fall, which means that if you book a vacation package during the specified dates (September-December), you can add on a Disney Dining Plan for FREE!

Which gets me to thinking…there are so many amazing Disney foods, but there are definitely a few that I absolutely cannot live without:

WaffleMickey Waffles – crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside – I could (and have!) eat 10 of these!

cupcakeThe Butterfinger Cupcake can be found around Hollywood Studios, and it is HUGE – but more than that, it is amazing- moist chocolate cake, whipped fluffy frosting topped with a chocolate shell and butterfinger bits, and a fudge-y surprise center – this is the ultimate snack!

MickeybarOh, and of course – the Mickey Bar – classic, simple, and still delicious and perfect on a hot day (better eat it fast though…nothing worse than a melted Mickey!

These are just a few of the amazing foods you could try while enjoying your WDW vacation, complete with free dining plan!

Don’t forget to check out all the Official Details on the free dining promotion – it’s too good to pass up!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – The Most Important Meal Of The Day!

Walt Disney World has some of the BEST FOOD I have ever had the privelege of tasting – everything is prepared fresh using the best ingredients, and it really shows in the final product.

Breakfast is no exception, they really go above and beyond at the Parks and Resorts to make sure you have plenty of options to choose from so you can start your day off right and fuel up for a day at the Parks!

TGIF Bfast CP One of my personal fave breakfast spots is the Crystal Palace – a character breakfast spot in the Magic Kingdom featuring Winnie The Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet. The food is amazing here – especially “Pooh’s Breakfast Lasagna” – which is essentially a warm berry bread pudding, and they also serve anything and everything breakfast-related – my fave are the Mickey waffles!

TGIF Bfast TuskerI tried Tusker House for the first time last year, and I have to say, I was impressed! Hosted by Donald and friends (decked out in their safari gear!), this African inspired meal serves up the classics as well as unique items like their bobotie (a spiced egg based casserole which is also served at Boma!)

TGIF Bfast POPIf you’re not in the mood for a sit down meal that early in the day, you can always grab something at your WDW Resort, like this freshly made waffle and bacon from the POP Century Resort

TGIF Bfast CRollIf the Magic Kingdom is your early morning Park of choice (it is for me!) then let your nose lead you over to the amazing smells coming from the Main Street Bakery, and grab a coffee and one of these bad boys – a warm, soft, gooey cinnamon roll

….Ok now not only do I miss Disney, but I’m starving. Breakfast time!

10 Not To Miss Disney Foods

I talk a lot about the food at Walt Disney World, and that’s because there is a LOT to say about it! It’s one of the things I look forward to most about WDW – planning my meals, making my ADR’s, and reading the Disney Food Blog to learn all about the new snacks they will have in store for me when I go!

Everyone has their personal favorite Disney food items, and I have compiled a list of ones that I think everyone should try:

Butterfinger1. Butterfinger Cupcake – Moist chocolate cake with a fudge center, piled high with fluffy vanilla frosting, and a chocolate and butterfinger shell – these things are massive, and delicious too – they are available at Starring Roles Cafe over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

PrimeRib2. Prime Rib at Cinderella’s Royal Table – My husband says this is the best prime rib he has ever had – perfectly cooked and seasoned, and not to mention huge! I will take his word for it, and I also suggest you check out CRT, located in the Castle at the Magic Kingdom – you get to dine with the Princesses and enjoy some royally amazing food. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and this place will definitely bring out your inner prince/princess!

3. Chicken Tenders – Ok, I know what you are thinking, really, chicken nuggets on a top 10 list? Well, call me crazy but i just love the nuggets they serve at various counter service locations around WDW – they are always moist on the inside, crispy and hot on the outside, and there is that little spice of black pepper in the breading that gives it just a bit of a kick. Grab some honey mustard and dip away – you won’t regret it, trust me

MickeyBar4. Mickey Ice Cream Bar – It doesn’t get much more classic than this – creamy vanilla ice cream covered in a layer of chocolate, shaped like a famous Mouse? Count me in – but you better be quick about it, or that Florida sun will melt Mickey all over your hand! Not that eating it fast is an issue – it’s so yummy it will disappear before your very eyes!

ZebraDome5. Zebra Domes – A creamy “adults only” dessert that consists of a kahlua mousse with a hint of chocolate…these are so good! They are only available at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and can be enjoyed at Boma or at AKL’s counter service restaurant, the Mara

6. Bobotie – It’s an authentic African dish made of spiced ground meat, baked with an egg topping. Think quiche, but more savory and flavorful, with hints of exotic spice and an almost cornbread like topping – you can score some of this winner at AKL’s Boma buffet

7. Pooh’s Breakfast Lasagna  – Head over to the Crystal Palace for a delicious buffet breakfast with Pooh and Friends, and sample this amazing concontion, comprised of pound cake, waffles, pancakes, pastry cream, custard, berries, and bananas. It reminds me of a berry bread pudding, and is amazing. If you’re adventurous, you can attempt this at home – personally, I will wait for Pooh to make it for me

8. Mickey Waffles – A staple of any WDW breakfast, these crispy on the outside soft and hot on the inside gems come in small and large sizes, and can be found all around the World. They have the perfect ratio of crunch to soft, and the best thing about them? They are shaped like a smiling Mickey, and are pretty much the cutest things ever. I like to start with the ears, personally

9. Salted Caramels – I am pretty much obsessed with salted caramels, and am happy to see that Disney has a few ways to feed my obsession – one place caramel lovers need to check out is Karamel Kuche over in the Germany area of Epcot’s World Showcase. They specialize in all things gooey and caramel-y, from fresh caramel corn to caramel drizzled cookies – to my beloved salted caramels, covered in either milk or dark chocolate. I also spotted some bagged Goofy’s Candy Company Salted Caramels at many spots around the World, and picked up some of these to enjoy at home – the caramel was nice and soft and a perfect amount of salt was on each one…needless to say, they didn’t make it all the way home

10. Bread and Butter Pudding at Raglan Road – Raglan Road (LINK) is an amazing place to eat (and drink!) in true Irish fashion. Their Bangers and Mash and Fish and Chips are delightful, and if you have any room after dinner, I suggest you try the Bread and Butter pudding – a bread pudding studded with golden raisins and served hot with vanilla and rum sauces on the side – its huge, and tastes like home – comfort food at it’s finest

Insider Tip: If you’re looking to mix it up, I suggest you attempt the 100 Disney Foods To Try Challenge, it is a great way to expand your dining horizons!

Ok, now I am starving…good thing it’s lunch time!
