T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Disney Snack Attack

Walt Disney World has some of the best food ever – I mean we are talking way above and beyond your standard burgers/chicken nuggets/random fried stuff that you find at most theme parks (but if you’re into that, don’t worry – they have that too!) Check out some of the amazing snacks you can get while at WDW:

snack7      snack1

As you can see, my husband and I like to share cake pops – and can you blame us when they are moist and flavorful, not to mention Mickey shaped?
snack2
Speaking of Mickey shaped – The Mickey Bar is a MUST on a hot day. Or any day really – I would even eat one in the snow – that’s how classically delicious they are

snack3snack4

Anything from Karamell Kuche in  Epcot’s Germany. Seriously – ANYTHING

snack5

Any of the sundaes from Ghiradelli in Disney Springs – this is the Gold Rush, with peanut butter and hot fudge, and it’s amazing – but anything made with their housemade fudge is to die for

snack6
…In case you hadn’t noticed, I have a bit of a sweet tooth…but my husband tends to enjoy salty things more, and soft pretzels are always a hit with him (this one used to have Mickey ears…but he scarfed those up before I could even get a picture!)

When snacktime hits at Disney World, there are so many awesome options that it would take weeks to try them all – which by the way is definitely what I am doing if I ever win the lottery!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Top WDW Ice Cream Treats

June has arrived! And Even though the calendar says it’s not officially summer yet, I personally have always thought of June as summertime – which around here in Upstate NY means climbing temperatures, and humidity too! It’s been in the 80’s all this week, and it’s a nice departure from the lackluster Spring we have been having. One of my favorite ways to celebrate the arrival of summer is with ICE CREAM – it’s the perfect way to cool off on a hot day!

Speaking of hot days….the start of June also means the start of the heat at Walt Disney World – and those of you who head to Disney in the summer months can expect not only high temperatures, but also humidity that is so thick you feel like you’re wearing it like a winter coat! Ice cream is vitally important on those hot summer days at the Disney Parks, and here are a few of my personal favorites:

Kitchen Sink Big

If you’re super into ice cream (which, let’s face it, who isn’t?), you can try and tackle the “Kitchen Sink” served at Beaches and Cream – it features vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, coffee and mint chocolate chip ice creams smothered in ALL THE TOPPINGS – and while it technically serves 4, I have heard rumors of people finishing it off on their own!

KitchenSink small

If you’re not sure you can handle the full size sink, then this Mickey’s Kitchen Sink might be a better pick for you – and it comes in a super adorable souvenir “sink” that you can take home with you!

IceCream

The smell of the Ghiradelli ice cream parlor in Disney Springs hits you long before you reach its entrance – and even if there’s a long line (which there often is) – it’s WELL worth the wait! I personally love the Gold Rush Sundae – ice cream smothered in amazing house made hot fudge and peanut butter – but there are plenty of other delicious options to choose from here

dole-whip-aloha

Ok well this one isn’t technically “ice cream” – but the citrus-y taste of a dole whip or float is the perfect way to cool off on a hot day

photos MickeyBars

And of course there’s the classic Mickey Bar – vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate, in the shape of everyone’s favorite Mouse – it’s an iconic treat that’s a must have for me every time I’m at Disney!

Ice Cream (like most everything else) tastes better at Disney World, and there are plenty of places to find this cool treat all over WDW – whether it’s in a cone, on a stick, in a cup, or in a sink – there’s plenty of ice cream options to help satisfy your sweet tooth AND keep you cool while you tour the WDW Theme Parks

TGIF – and happy (almost) Summer!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Top 3 Disney Things I Can’t WAIT To Share

zombomeme03052016123003

I cannot WAIT to take my little guy to Disney World – and speaking of waits – this one is KILLING me! We originally wanted to wait until he turns 4 to take him, but I seriously cannot last that long – so I am attempting to convince my husband that we should go when he turns 3. Does this mean diapers? Probably. Does it mean renting/bringing a stroller? Probably….which is seriously one of my pet peeves. But the bottom line is – I want him to experience all the amazing things WDW has to offer, and to start making his own Disney memories! What am I most excited to share with him? Well, everything of course – but there are 3 things that stand out:

MainStreetCastle

The Castle – There are few things quite like this view down Main Street USA, when you’re standing right by the entrance and can see Cinderella’s Castle off in the distance…makes me tear up every time (yeah, I’m a nostalgic weirdo, it’s cool – I own that about myself)

DSCN2746

The MOUSE – I cannot wait to see what he thinks of Mickey! Of course there’s the possibility that he will scream, cry, and refuse to get near him, but I personally think he will be more curious than anything – he will want to touch his nose and pat his head, for sure. No matter how it turns out, it will be a memorable moment, for sure!

Mickeybar

His First Mickey Bar – He loves ice cream, and he REALLY enjoys making a mess – so this is the perfect treat for him! Seriously though, it’s like a rite of passage – having a Mickey Bar while watching the parade make its way down Main Street is a must-do, and I will be there to capture the moment on camera (and will have a packet of wipes on standby for the aftermath too…). I am sure he will love them just as much (if not more!) than his dad does (his smile says it all, doesn’t it?)

I am hoping to get to share these (and many more!) Disney moments with my son next fall – but I might have to exercise patience and wait another year…either way, it will be the first of many amazing family trips to the Happiest Place On Earth!

T.G.I.F Pic Of The Week – Mickey Shaped Foods Make Eating Fun!

I’ve talked before about Mickey Shaped Foods, and for those of you who haven’t tried anything in this iconic mouse shape, and are thinking “um what’s so great about Mickey shaped foods?” – it’s hard to explain. Just try them – they are adorable, and they taste better than regular shaped food (seriously, it’s true!)

photos MickeyBars

The Mickey Bar – a chocolate covered vanilla ice cream treat on a stick. It’s classic, delicious, and perfect for anyone and everyone (but you better make quick work of it on a hot day!)

BigWaffle

Crispy on the outside, warm and soft and yeast-y on the inside (pauses to wipe up drool) – I don’t know of anyone who would turn down

a Mickey waffle

Sharing CakePop

The ears of this Mickey cake pop are actually little marshmallows – isn’t that clever? The cake itself is dense and moist and delicious…hence the sharing that is bordering on a fight to see who will get the last bite…

Pretzel

Soft pretzels are such a great snack – and these Mickey shaped ones are big enough to share too (should you feel so inclined)

You can make your own Mickey Shaped foods at home too – with a Mickey Cookie Cutter, Mickey egg ring, or a Mickey waffle maker (I have all of these, of course – and I even have two Mickey waffle makers!)

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween to everyone! Hope you enjoy this fun holiday as much as I do – I love scary movies and trick or treating and candy and costumes and decorating for it – it’s a great time for all, and now that I have a little guy of my own, it will be great to get to experience it all with him too!

20141023_112219

Here’s my little guy all ready to party! Ok well maybe not party – maybe take a nap. and poop. But still – he’s dressed for the occasion anyway! He also has a Mickey Mouse costume to rock out tonight when we hand out candy (what kind of Disney lover would I be if I didn’t have a Disney costume for him, right?!)

Speaking of Disney costumes, you can buy them pretty much everywhere now – costume stores, Target, Walmart, KMart – you name a store, they carry Disney Halloween gear! If you’re planning on heading to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at WDW’s Magic Kingdom, then you will definitely want to think about what to wear to it – costumes are encouraged and are a must for any trick or treating party! People really like to think outside the box when it comes to dressing for the party:

Halloween1

Toy Story Themed Toys – Love this as a family costume idea!

Halloween2

Haunted Mansion characters – so creative!

Halloween3

UP themed couple’s costume

Halloween4

These Mickey Bars look delicious, don’t they?!

Halloween5

Classic Couple Mickey And Minnie pose for a kiss!

So while you can buy premade Disney costumes anywhere, if you use your imagination you can probably come up with something even more unique and amazing to wear to the Party – whether it be at Disney or at home!

Enjoy your Halloween – and TGIF!

Times They Are A Changin’…

I am in the home stretch of my first pregnancy – early next month my little guy will be here and nothing will be quite the same ever again! I have many hopes and dreams for him and for our life together as a little family – aside from wanting him to be happy, healthy, and to thrive and grow – I am hoping that he inherets my husband’s curiosity and intellegence, my organizational and planning skills – and if we are being honest, I am kinda hoping he inherits my love of all things Disney too (that being totally secondary to all the other things of course!)

mickeyBar Old

I first visited Walt Disney World when I was 4 – and I do remember parts of it – sitting on my dad’s shoulders, getting Mickey Bars (which looked a bit different back then – plus you could buy them at grocery stores too which we did often!), begging for the Daisy Duck hat with the giant HEAVY plastic brim (her beak, of course!), and most memorably – I recall crying and crying after my dad convinced me it would be fun to ride Space Mountain (it was NOT fun – but luckily I got over it)

I was lucky enough to spend over a dozen family vacations at Disney World with my parents – we made memories that I will always cherish, and I truly hope I can make some similarly amazing memories with my husband and our son in the years to come

Ok, so if we are being honest, there are a few things I am hoping he likes when it comes to Disney:

Rides: He doesn’t have to like them all, but I hope that he will be willing to try all the different kinds – from the thrill rides to the “kiddie” rides – I hope he has an adventurous side and is open to them all!

-Characters: Giant fuzzy creatures coming towards you for a hug can be extremely frightening for a little kid – and many young ones have cried at their first character encounter, even if its with their favorite character who they have been dying to meet. You just never know, but I am hoping my kid will love the hugs and attention even at a young age (I sure did – man did it feel special and awesome to get a hug from Pooh at breakfast!)

Food: Disney does an amazing job catering to those with allergies, food sensitivities, and especially to those picky eaters out there. I don’t think any parent hopes for a picky eater, but hey – it happens, and luckily they can have their fill of chicken nuggets, fries, and mac and cheese at Disney World. Do I hope my son wants to try the sushi and steak and gelato and naan bread? Yes, of COURSE I hope he wants to try something new, but if he doesn’t, we can both eat the chicken nuggets together (as they are pretty good too!)

These are all “nice to have” wishes, but in reality, I just hope he wants to go places with us, and can look back on the memories we made as a family when he grows up

Needless to say, a trip to WDW is not exactly in the cards for us for….a while. Probably 3-4 years at least. But in the meantime, I will have a LOT going on – and something tells me I wont miss it that much compared to the joy ahead of me – like getting to meet the little guy kicking around inside me (you can come out any day now – seriously). I can only hope that my love for Disney will be passed on to my son and that he will get as much joy and pleasure out of it as I have!
