T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Adding Some Extra “Magic” To Your Magic Bands

Have you been to Disney World recently? If so, you probably have had a chance to try out their new Magic Band system – and if not, let me give you a quick rundown on what you’re missing out on: the Magic Band is essentially a bracelet that contains and electronic chip, which acts as your park ticket, your method of payment at the Parks for souvenirs/food etc, your WDW Resort room key, and it even stores your Fastpass/Dining Reservation information too. Pretty cool for a little bracelet, right? The design of the band itself is pretty basic – so of course people have come up with plenty of ways to personalize their Magic Bands:

There are plenty of accessories available for sale at the Disney Parks

….And then there’s the “after-market” Magic Band Accessories – many of which are available through sites like Etsy

Or if you’re the crafty type, you can always decorate it yourself

Personally I like to keep it simple – a little Muppet charm and I’m good to go!

Trying Out Disney’s New Magic Band System

Magic Bands

The Family That Magic Bands Together Stays Together

I have to admit – I wasn’t sure about using Disney’s new Magic Bands system at first – I was sure it would be hard to setup, and confusing to use once we got to Disney World – but I was actually pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed them!

A few months before the trip, I went online to the My Disney Experience website and setup all 4 of us (myself and my husband, and then I linked my parents reservation too) with profiles, and I have to say – this was probably the worst part of the process. The My Disney Experience Website was not the most user friendly – it was slow, often the pages “couldn’t be found” or the “server was busy”, but once I was finally able to set all 4 of us up with profiles on the site, we were able to customize our Magic Bands, and they were shipped to us about a month before our trip

I was also able to setup our Fastpass+ through the website, and I would say the only drawback to this was that you can only have 3 fastpasses per person per day, and they can’t be at 2 different parks – which to me is a bit limiting, but I understand that they can’t let everyone go nuts and have as many as they want. However, I hope they look at this limitation in the future and come up with some kind of alternative – anything is possible!

Once we were at the Resort, I was able to use the My Disney Experience app on my iphone to check dining reservation and Fastpass times, and change them if need be – which was nice. The app was pretty slow too and didn’t always want to work correctly, but I am guessing those kinks will be worked out soon, since the Magic Band system will be rolled out all over the World very soon (while we were there, the Magic Bands were only being tested by select Resorts).

We were able to use the Bands to pay at Restaurants, shops, snack carts, and they were our fastpass and park admission tickets as well. I am glad we were able to test out the Magic Bands system, and can’t wait what new technology Disney comes up with next!

Breaking WDW News: Magic Bands Rollout Delayed

MagicBands

Some Disney News for you all: Disney had been planning to fully roll out its new Magic Band program to all WDW Resorts this year – but it looks like this has changed, and has been delayed. It will likely be several months before the program is fully operative for all guests, according to Disney sources.

The Magic Band program is essentially an RFID bracelet that acts as your Resort room key and room charge account, and it also stores your reservation, Fastpass, and Disney ticket information for a more seamless guest experience. It sounds like a great idea, and I know it has been several years in the making for Disney, as a LOT of work and updates are needed to make this functional

Personally, I hope this doesn’t affect my chance to try out the Magic Bands – I already picked out the color (PINK!) and the My Disney Experience website asked me for my shipping address – so I will keep my fingers crossed that mine will arrive soon and I can have the chance to participate in the testing process for this new system

Check out more info here, and stay tuned – I will post more info as it becomes available!
