T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – What I Miss The Most

I cannot WAIT to head to Walt Disney World in September – not only will it be my son’s first trip there, but it will be our first time going since Christmas 2013. Yeah – it will have been over FIVE YEARS since we have been to WDW – and there are SO MANY things I miss about it – but here are the things I miss the most:

The Characters – I don’t care how old you are, a hug from your favorite Disney character is always a great feeling!

The Shopping: Ears galore, shirts, bags, mugs, magnets – and about a million other awesome Disney themed souvenirs to browse and buy

The FOOD: Sweet, savory, and everything in between – Disney has the BEST FOOD EVER ON THE PLANET – I love it all – but I am particularly partial to the baked goods – cupcakes, cake pops, breakfast pastries, funnel cakes, churros – you name it, I miss it and can’t wait to eat one (or more!) of everything!

The MAGIC: It’s hard to put into words, but this is definitely the thing I miss most – that feeling you get when you walk down Main Street, or when you notice a hidden Mickey in the sidewalk stones – if you’re never experienced it, you should – it’s worth waiting for, and it’s worth every penny and hour spent planning and traveling. It’s worth it ALL and then some

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – The Disney Store I Remember

When I was a kid (not to sound old, but – might as well say “back in MY day”…), the mall was quite the place to go – the 90’s were certainly a height of the “mall” era – and it was always packed full of people shopping for anything and everything – that perfect gift, new shoes, back to school clothes – you name it, the mall had it. And one thing they had that I always, always had to check out was of course the DISNEY STORE. They had it ALL – toys, movies, a TON of stuffed animals, and of course – DISNEY movies playing all day every day!

The oh-so-90’s look of the old Disney Stores – I LOVED the Mickey “film strip” style border

DisneyStore6

There were adorable animated scenes depicted in the store windows

DisneyStore4

Even more characters awaited you inside the store

THE STUFFED ANIMAL MOUNTAIN!!! The best part! It was always a mess but was still always amazing anyway

Disney Store5

OMG that carpet – haha – it was something, wasn’t it?

DisneyStore1

Pooh – meeting and greeting fans with hugs outside the Disney Store at MY local mall!

This is the pic that actually inspired this post – I was going through some old photos and found this – they used to have characters come to the Disney Store, and I remember standing in line to meet Mickey, Minnie, and Pooh too (this one was taken when our local Disney Store opened back in the early 90’s)

The more modern Disney Store design we see in today’s malls

The Disney Store is still a magical place – but it’s WAY different than I remember. The magic is still there though – and kids still LOVE it – the stuffed animals, the movies and music playing, the fun lighting and décor – even though it’s changed, I still wish we had one at our mall (sadly it closed years ago). These days, not only are Disney Stores closing more than they are opening, but malls themselves are kind of going by the wayside – as people buy a TON online now (myself included!). Ordering online from the Disney Store’s website is pretty great – they have TONS of stuff, and are always running deals/specials – but let’s face it, it’s just not the same as going into the store and picking it out yourself.

Ah, well – times change, and while it’s fun to reminisce – I have to admit, online shopping is convenient, and can be fun in it’s own way, too! What about you – Are you lucky enough to still have a Disney Store in your local mall? Or do you prefer to get your Disney fix online (like me!)?

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – My Top Disney Souvenir Picks

I don’t know about you, but I personally am a big fan of souvenir shopping. I love checking out what different shops have to offer, and then picking out the perfect item(s) to memorialize my trip with! Disney World has got to be one of the best places ever to shop for souvenirs – they have tons of shops that offer plenty of unique items for you to choose from. Over the years, I have developed a list of items that are the Perfect Disney Souvenirs:

photos CastleNight

Number one souvenir that I strive to get as many of as possible while at Disney is PHOTOS – what better way to remember your trip than with a ton of great pictures? Personally my faves are ones taken in front of the castle, or with characters – and I love displaying them once I get home, too – in frames and albums mostly, but there are plenty of unique ways to display Disney trip photos

Mugs PrincessMug

I LOVE mugs (and personally think that a Disney Mug makes coffee taste better) – so I always try and find a funky new one to bring home with me from each trip.
**Side note for those who don’t use mugs – there are tons of great water bottles/drinkware available at the Parks too!

Pins Muppets

Ok, so – I know what you’re thinking – “ugh pins – I don’t collect those, that’s a stupid souvenir” – and I used to think that too! I started collecting a few years ago when I spotted an adorable Fozzy Bear wearing mickey ears pin on someones backpack – and of course that only came in a set with 7 other Muppet character pins – and so it began. I want to point out though – I am not really that into “pin trading” or getting the newest “limited edition” pins – I tend to just collect ones with a meaning/memory attached to them – like my Main Street Trolley pin that I bought after we had the chance to be the first people to ride it one morning. So, knock it if you want – but there are some pretty cool pins out there!

What About You – What are your “go to” Disney souvenirs?

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Perfect Disney Gifts For Your Valentine!

vday1

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! Is it a cheesy Hallmark-y holiday? Yes. Do I love it anyway? YES – of course! Who wouldn’t love an excuse to eat TONS of chocolate? No woman I know, that’s for sure! If your valentine LOVES Disney as much as me, then you will want to gift her one of these top Disney Valentine’s Gifts:

vday2vday3

Jewelry is a classic Valentine’s gift – nothing says love like a little bling, am I right? Personally I have my eye on these Mickey stud earrings, but I also love the necklace (depicting one of the world’s most classic couples!)

vday4vday5

Side Note – Men like getting jewelry too! Subtle and classy Mickey on a watch or Star wars cuff links are the perfect addition to that suit and tie

vday-7vday6

Apparel like this adorable apron or sweet shirt would be hits for your Disney loving gal – the quote on the shirt is the best (I wish it came in a print – I would frame it!)

vday9vday8

For me it doesn’t get any better than a good Disney Mug – this would make me swoon!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – “Disney Springs” Is Open For Business!

It’s been a few years now since Disney announced they would be transforming Downtown Disney into “Disney Springs” – with plans for a complete overhaul, and the addition of lots of new shopping and dining options, too!

Well, piece by piece, it’s all finally coming together – and the results? See for yourself – as the “Town Center” section of the Springs opened just a few weeks ago:

Pretty awesome, right? There are some seriously nice new stores in here – for a list of the new retailers click here, and you can also check out the official Disney Springs website here. I hope to get the chance to check it out soon – and to give my credit card a workout while I’m at it, too!

TGIF – and happy shopping!

Halloween = Spooky = Haunted Mansion Fun!

Last weekend was Halloween, and my mind is still stuck on all things spooky/creepy. One of my most favorite spooky things is definitely Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride. It has always been one of my favorite rides at Walt Disney World, and I love to ride it multiple times per trip (as many as I can fit in!). I love it all – the creepy intro, the “doom buggies”, the hitchhiking ghosts, the “room for one more” – it’s all so kitschy and amazing, and over the past few years, the ride has become even more popular, gaining somewhat of a cult-like following, which Disney has OF COURSE capitalized on:

There’s now a Haunted Mansion themed store right by the ride’s entrance

The shop offers tons of great merchandise – but if you’re not going to WDW anytime soon, you can also purchase some of the merchandise online

Hmm…this is already inspiring ideas for next year’s Halloween costume…I could be a corpse bride, or maybe a hitchhiking ghost?

“We have 999 happy haunts here, but there’s room for 1000. Any volunteers, hmmm? If you should decide to join us, final arrangements may be made at the end of the tour…”
