T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – New Land Means New FOOD!

I recently wrote about the newest expansion opening this week at Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Pandora: The World Of Avatar – an immersive land that includes new rides and attractions, and it of course also includes new FOOD (which, if I’m being honest, is about 75% the reason I would even go anywhere ever – is for the food)

Check out what Pandora has to offer for your palette:

PandoraFood1

“Pods” – Steamed buns filled with either a cheeseburger mixture or vegetable curry, and served with root veggie chips and a veggie slaw. At breakfast time you can get them filled with eggs, bacon and spinach!

Pandorafood4

“Build Your Own” Bowls start with a base of quinoa, potato hash, rice, or kale salad, and then topped with a protein – beef, chicken, fish, or tofu, and the sauce of your choice – onion chimichurri, black bean vinaigrette, or herb dressing

Pandorafood2

This amazingly beautiful dessert is a blueberry cream cheese mousse topped with passionfruit curd

PandoraFood3

I am a big fan of boba – the little gelatin like balls found in bubble tea – so I will definitely want to try one of these new frozen drinks!

I can’t wait to see and do everything that Pandora has to offer – and I am especially looking forward to all the TASTES it will have to share, too!

My List of Disney Lists

disney-world-vacation-planning

I like to make lists. That is no secret, and I do not apologize for it. Organization is important – and it’s especially important when you’re taking your family on a vacation! Forgetting something (like your cell phone charger or spare camera battery…) can impact your entire trip, so I find its best to plan ahead as much as possible. I like to make SEVERAL different lists when preparing for my Walt Disney World vacations – here’s a rundown of them:

-Souvenir List – having been to WDW many times, I know what kinds of souvenirs they have, and what kinds of things I can actually enjoy/get a lot of use out of. Kitchen items, mugs, playing cards, pens – these are the kinds of things I like to plan to buy, and having a list of what I might want to get helps keep my budget on track. I use the Disney Store website to help ballpark costs of some of the items, which helps too!

-Budget – Ok, this one isn’t really a “list”, but its still a REALLY important part of vacation planning – knowing how much things cost and about how much you will need to save is imperative. Some things I always include in a Disney trip budget are: hotel, park tickets, food costs (don’t forget tips and “adult” drinks too!), souvenirs, transportation, and incidentals (someone loses their hat, or we run out of sunscreen, etc)

-Packing list – You HAVE to make a list of what’s going to go in your suitcase – you don’t want to forget anything important! I like to make the list a few weeks before the trip, and I do it on my phone so that I can add items as I think of them. I also like to check the weather so that I know what I can expect – things like ponchos and sunscreen are always on my list, and I like to make sure I have some snacks for traveling and all my necessary chargers too. Now that I have a son too, packing has become this HUGE undertaking –and I now need a separate list so I can make sure I have everything he needs too – so if you have kids, packing lists are even more important

-Park Items – There are some items you will want to make sure you are toting along on your Park days – sunscreen, assorted sizes of Ziploc baggies, ponchos, snacks, sunglasses, and a lightweight hoodie are some of the things that go into the backpack we bring when we head to one of the WDW theme parks

-“Must-Do’s” – Before you go to Disney World, check out their official list of rides/attractions and go over it with your family. Decide which ones are on your “must do” list and make sure you have that handy while at the Parks. This should be a pretty short list – as you don’t want to try and do too much in a day or you’ll get burnt out!

-“Must-Eat” items – Disney is a food lover’s paradise – they have all kinds of cuisine and restaurants, and it’s a good idea to know what they have and what you might want to try. This is an especially good thing to do if you have any type of special diet or food allergy – it’s good to know which places can accommodate your needs

Hopefully this “list of lists” will be helpful to you– maybe you can use some (or all!) of them to help ensure your WDW vacation goes smoothly!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – “Cheers” To A Disney Happy Hour!

Walt Disney World is a GREAT place for adults to vacation, and one of the things that only the 21 and over crowd can enjoy there is the huge variety of alcoholic beverages available on menus all around the Disney “World”

Here are a few of our faves:

 HappyHour Rag

The beer list at Raglan Road Irish Pub is long, and full of delicious options!

HappyHourBig River

Or head over to Big River Brewing Company – where the beer is brewed on site!

HappyHour Boma1

HappyhourBoma2

Boma has a great selection of whiskey drinks – a few of which my family and I have sampled and really enjoyed!

So cheers to Disney, Friday, and good times! TGIF!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – California Grill Set To Open With A New Look AND A New Menu!

One of Disney’s most popular restaurants – the California Grill – has been closed for renovations for months now, and it’s finally set to open back up at the end of August – with new décor, and more importantly, new FOOD!

TGIF Cali Grill Three-Meatball-Appetizer

Start out with some delicious meatballs as your appetizer

TGIF Cali Grill Halibut

Then check out this amazingly presented Halibut

TGIF Dessert-Trio-California-Grill

And of course, you should ALWAYS save room for dessert…like this sundae sampler

TGIF Chocolate-Pudding-Cake-600x336

Or this chocolate pudding mousse – how rich and decadent does THAT look?

I have to admit – personally, I was not too impressed with California Grill when I dined here in April of 2012, but these new menu items are making me wonder if I could give it another chance? Hmm…so many WDW restaurant options, so little time!

Disney For Adults – FAQ

MickeyBar

When people find out how much of a Disney lover I am, and how often I vacation at Walt Disney World, I am often met with skepticism, disbelief, and QUESTIONS – I am always prepared for all three, and it led me to realize that many people probably have the same inquiries, so here are some Frequently Asked Questions about Disney World for adults:

“Isn’t Walt Disney World Just For Kids?” – HECK NO! That’s really the reason behind me starting this blog, is to help adults realize that WDW has a lot to offer for those of ALL ages, and that everyone will have fun here, not just kids

“Isn’t A Walt Disney World vacation expensive?” – It can be, but if you make smart choices like staying in a Disney Value Resort, sharing meals (as Disney portions can be HUGE!), keeping your souvenir budget in check, and going at “off” times when the prices are lower, you can save money and make it more of a value

“What is there for adults to do at Walt Disney World?” – A LOT! From spas, to golf courses, to 5 star meals, to boat rentals, to watersports, to behind the scenes tours, to special events, to shopping, swimming….let’s just say this – you will never be bored at WDW

“Where can I stay at Walt Disney World?” – They have a ton of amazing Resorts – ranging in price and ameneties, you can stay in anything from a basic room to a campground cabin to an RV to a 3 bedroom suite. Disney does a great job with theming on these resorts too, so if you’re really into New Orleans, or the Caribbean, or Disney Animation – there are Resorts themed to all of those and more!

“What’s the food like at Walt Disney World?” – Theme Park food gets a bad rap, and for a good reason – it’s mostly overpriced, bad tasting, and bad for you. Well, rest assured that WDW food is absolutely NOTHING like your typical Theme Park cuisine – they do it all here: sushi, steak, salads, buffets, dishes from around the World, and much more. It’s one of my favorite parts of Disney – is trying new and different restaurants and food

“Why should I go to Walt Disney World?” – Why NOT? It is a magical place, with something for everyone – rides, food, shows, attractions, animals, characters, parades, live music, drinks, dancing, laughter – need I say more?

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Mingling With Royalty At WDW

One of the best parts of WDW is the character interaction – you have a chance to meet so many different characters, and it’s always fun to get a hug and a picture with your favorite! One of my favorite ways to meet characters is by going to character meals – there are usually 4 or 5 characters that mingle around while you’re eating to interact with you – and the best part is they come right to you! No waiting in line necessary!

CRT sign

One of more coveted (aka harder to get a reservation for) is Cinderella’s Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom – where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in a royal fashion inside Cinderella’s Castle!

CRT CinderellaWhen you arrive, you are greeted downstairs by Cinderella and you have your picture taken with her (the photos are then brought to your table, and the price is included in the meal!)

CRT INsideOnce your name is called, you head upstairs to your table. Personally, I loved getting to see the inside of the Castle – it’s beautiful, and not something that everyone gets to see, so that makes it all the more special!CRT RibThe food here is amazing – my husband especially enjoyed the Prime Rib!

CRT

Why Adults will love it – The food really is amazing, plus guys will like the princesses (they are usually not too hard on the eyes!) and the experience is fun and unique, and makes you feel like real royalty!

Why Kids will love it – getting to meet their favorite princesses and pretend they are little princes and princesses will brighten any little one’s day! Plus, what a perfect excuse to dress up like your favorite Disney Princess!
