T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Those Movies Are HOW Old?

I was reading recently on the Disney Parks Blog that the Lion King turned 21, and that Pocahontas turned 20 – hard to believe, as I remember when both of these first came out, and I remember going to see The Lion King in theaters!

Got me to thinking – how old are some of the other Animated Disney Classics?

SnowWhite

Snow White is the oldest – originally released in theaters in 1937

Cinderella

My absolute favorite Disney movie – Cinderella – first graced the big screen in 1950. Hard to believe that it was that long ago, isn’t it?

AliceInWonderland

Followed the next year by Alice In Wonderland in 1951

TheLittleMermaid

Jump ahead a little to this classic – released in 1989 – 26 years ago

Disney's Beauty and the Beast (1991)

This “Tale as old as time” came out in 1991

TheLionKing

In 1994 I was 10 – and vividly remember seeing this at the movies

Wreck-It-Ralph

2012 brought us the release of Wreck-It Ralph – which didn’t get much publicity as it should have in my opinion – I loved this movie!

INside Out

Disney’s newest movie was released just last week to rave reviews – will YOU be heading to see Inside Out?

These Disney Classics have stood the test of time, and I can’t wait to see what else they come up with!

DIY Some Disney Love This Valentine’s Day

Ok so Christmas is over (boo) and we are in the middle of another cold, cold winter (double boo). BUT – luckily Valentine’s Day is coming up (well, luckily for those of you who love this holiday – like me!). I know many think it’s just a Hallmark holiday or a waste of time – but I love it! I love the hearts and pink and red decorations and flowers and candy – and I especially love homemade gifts – they really show how much you care, and since I am a huge Disney fan, I love when my man makes me Disney gifts for Valentine’s Day even more! Here are some ideas/things he has made me that I hope can inspire the romantic in you:

DisneyGifts Cards

Even if you don’t celebrate or enjoy Valentine’s Day, a card saying “I Love You” is great any time of the year – and if you have the time and talent, making one yourself is always the way to go. Over the years, my husband has drawn me several cards featuring some of my favorite characters (mainly Disney ones of course!), and they are some of the best things I have ever received! If you aren’t sure you can make a card, a store bought card with a heartfelt message works too

DisneyGifts Art1

I couldn’t believe it when I opened this one – talk about awesome! My guy had seen a similar crayon art piece online, and decided he wanted to do one with Mickey and Minnie on it for me! Check out the instructions on how to create your own Melted Crayon Art here

DisneyGiftsArt2

Isn’t this one fun? My favorite Disney movie of all time is Cinderella – so my husband made this for me, and I just love how he incorporated pictures from our fun times in Disney! Something like this would be easy to create for the one you love – or you can do something simpler and get a great Disney photo frame and put a picture of the two of you in it. Or you can always check out photo websites like Shutterfly.com which have tons of photo gift items that you can personalize (with pictures from your Disney vacations perhaps?)

Another idea that can really be personalized is a Disney gift basket – there’s tons of Disney merchandise out there, from the Disney Store (both online and in malls!) to almost any local store near you – Grocery stores, Target, Wal-Mart, Department stores like JP Penney – all of them carry an assortment of Disney apparel, toys, accessories, food, and more! Especially around the holidays – places like Target will have Valentine’s themed cards, candy, mugs, plush toys, snacks etc – grab a bunch and put them in a nice basket and boom you’ve got yourself an easy DIY Disney Valentine’s gift! Of course, if you wanted to get a little more creative, you could do a basket themed after their favorite Disney movie, or make one full of stuff for their next Disney trip – the sky’s the limit here!

While the main purpose of this post was to brag about how awesome my husband is and how he gives me great gifts (just kidding – sorta!) – what I really want to impress upon everyone is that making your own Disney gifts for your Valentine doesn’t have to be hard or expensive, and you don’t have to be the king or queen of crafting to put together a nice, personalized gift that shows them how much you care!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – New Year, New Resolutions!

HAPPY 2015! Can’t believe Christmas is over and it’s a whole new year already! I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to take on 2015 and all the challenges and good times it is sure to bring! I like to make New Year’s Resolutions, and I have come up with some for this year:

Introducing my baby boy to the world of Disney, starting with these:

TGIF NY 1

Yeah, that’s right – Disney Videos! Actual VHS tapes of basically all the classics, and not only will this introduce him to Walt’s classics, but it will also teach him what a VCR is (something he otherwise would never have known, because who uses those anymore anyway? Well, me, duh!)

TGIF NY 2

Aside from videos, it’s also never too early to teach him about the Disney Parks too – he will need a full education on what it’s like to visit the happiest place on earth, and I hereby resolve to start that education ASAP!

TGIF NY 3

Another one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to cook more and to try new recipes. Lucky for me, Disney can help me out with that, with their assortment of cookbooks that contain recipes from the Disney Parks and Resorts!

IMG_32287973495935

My last resolution is the most important to me – and that is to spend as much time as I can with my family and get to watch my baby grow into a little boy – they grow up fast, and I won’t be missing a single minute of it. Before I know it, he will be tall enough to go on all the Rides at Walt Disney World! I can’t wait to take him – but for now, I will focus on enjoying this stage of his life and helping him learn and grow

What about you – do you make any New Years Resolutions? Are they Disney related?

TGIF and Happy New Year to all!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Going To The (Disney!) Dogs

Today is our family dog’s birthday – Mollie is a beautiful chocolate lab celebrating her EIGHTH birthday! I can’t believe she is 8 (makes me feel old!) – she is still so puppy like in so many ways! She is full of life and love – and we are so grateful to have her in our family!

Puppy Mollie

Here she is as a little baby – giving my husband a high five

 ThreeDogs

Here she is with our other family dogs – my boy Walter on the right and his sister Lucy on the left belongs to my parents – can you tell I am holding a treat?

MOLLIE ANDREW

And here Mollie is with her main man – my husband Andrew. She has been enamored with him since the very day she laid eyes on him. Mollie may live at my parent’s house, but her heart belongs to Andrew – they are quite the pair aren’t they?

…Clearly we are dog people, in case you couldn’t tell. Our love for dogs extends beyond our own – we love getting the chance to meet with some of our favorite Disney Dogs too!

Pluto Dog

Mickey’s best pal Pluto is always good for a hug

Goofy Dog

Goofy always makes me smile!

Doug Up

Next up on the Disney Dog list would be to get to meet Doug from UP! Maybe I can ask him if he likes squirrels..hmm…

Happy Birthday to my girl Mollie, and Happy Friday to all! TGIF!

Frozen – I don’t Get It. Still.

Frozen

I have written about how I gave the movie Frozen two chances – I watched it twice and I will admit I definitely appreciated it more the second time – HOWEVER – I will also admit – I still do NOT understand Frozen. The popularity/hype/intensity – people are seriously obsessed with this movie – and it’s not just kids either – adults are jumping on the bandwagon too!

Waiting 5 hours to meet Anna and Elsa at the Disney Parks. A New Frozen ride at Disney. Thousands of parodies of “Let It Go” on YouTube. “Sexy” Frozen Halloween Costumes (yeah, that’s really a thing), the MOST INSANE amount of merchandising I have ever seen for a single movie in my whole life…it all seems…excessive, and I fear I may stand alone on this one – but I just don’t get it.

Now – don’t get me wrong, I love a good Disney movie – but in my book – Frozen barely qualifies as a “good” movie – I mean, it’s cute, the songs are great, the characters are somewhat amusing – but overall – mediocre at best. It certainly can’t hold a flame to Cinderella (my absolute fave!), or Toy Story, or Finding Nemo…I could go on (but I won’t). I am glad that Disney is getting so much mileage out of Frozen, and that it was such a hit for them – but really? I’m over it. I am sorry if this offends you….and if it does then maybe you should learn to “Let It Go” (ha!), Seriously though – Disney – can we move on to something bigger and better? Please? I would appreciate it – and I can’t be alone in thinking that way…right?

Saying Farewell To The World’s Greatest Genie – Robin Williams

I am sure that by now, you have all heard the shocking news of Robin William’s death which occurred Monday evening. America has had so many laughs thanks to him and his many movie roles and stand up acts, and he will always be remembered for the joy he brought to us all.

Robin-Williams-Genie

Aladdin was one of the first movies I remember seeing in the theater, and I watched it so much I wore out the VHS (remember those?). The main reason this movie was such a hit can really be attributed to Robin William’s amazing portrayal of the Genie – he made us laugh and as we all know, laughter can cure whatever ails you!

aladdin-genie

Unfortunately, laughter wasn’t enough for Robin, as he had some internal battles that he was dealing with which ultimately lead to his death, you can read more about the demons that plagued the actor here

RIP Robin – your legacy will live on for generations to come, and thanks for making me laugh when I really needed it
