T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Is A Star Wars Resort Coming To Walt Disney World?

My son is pretty into Star Wars right now – he isn’t quite 3, so he doesn’t really “get” a lot of it – but he likes all the characters, and asks to watch it often (which makes my Star-Wars-Loving Husband very happy!)

So it’s no surprise that Star Wars has been on my mind lately – and apparently I am not the only one – as Star Wars was a BIG topic of conversation (and gossip!) at last month’s annual D23 Expo (where all Disney things new and exciting are revealed for the upcoming year and beyond!). I recently wrote about the Confirmation Of Star Wars Land coming to both the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts in 2019, but the buzz around the expo also mentioned the possibility of a star wars themed Resort Hotel to come in the future too! Check it out:

At this point, this is mostly just rumors, and obviously the pictures above are concept art – so who knows when it will open or what the Resort will actually be like. Disney did basically Officially Announce It on their blog, so it will likely happen – but the details all remain to be revealed. Based on the pictures above and from what the blog says, the Resort will be an “immersive experience” where you actually go on a mission and dress the part as the story unfolds around you. Sounds amazing – but – I have a feeling this might end up being pretty pricy! Could be worth it for those hardcore Star Wars fans, though!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – WDW’s Good Neighbor Hotels

Ok let me just start by saying that I am a HUGE advocate of staying on property when vacationing at Disney World, the Walt Disney World Hotels are amazing, and offer great service, food, and lodging for all. But I have to admit, as my family grows and changes, our needs when it comes to vacationing are changing too. Like – I would prefer a kitchen so I can prepare some of my own meals, and I would like a separate bedroom/sleeping area for my son – to name a few. So staying in a small hotel room with 2 double beds and no place for my son to play or my husband and I to be alone…yeah, not so attractive anymore, really

Sorry Disney – but I think it’s time I expanded my horizons and looked off site for lodging options. I know, I know – it’s crazy sounding, but believe it or not there’s a whole other world of hotels right outside the gates of Walt Disney World!

Many of these hotels are what Disney calls “Good Neighbor Hotels” – which means that they are on a short list of hotels that Disney deems worthy of associating with – they have great service, are AAA approved, are close to the Parks, and have an on-site guest services desk that can answer questions and assist with Disney ticket purchases too! Check out just of what you can expect at these Hotels:

GN 6

GN 1

All these hotels offer awesome pools with tons of space for your whole family to lounge and play. Additionally, many of these hotels offer perks like shuttles to the Disney Parks, free breakfasts, game rooms, water slides, and plenty more, too!

GN 5

GN 2

Many offer full kitchens with stoves, dishes and cookware – allowing you to cook your own meals, which could potentially save you a TON of money

GN 3

Oh hello separate bedroom perfect for my son (or my husband and me!)

GN 4

Another nice to have amenity is an open floor plan – a combined dining/living/kitchen area makes my life a lot easier when it comes to keeping track of little ones!

All of these are photos from some of the various WDW Good Neighbor hotels, and these are some places I will be seriously considering for my next WDW trip – more space, privacy, a kitchen, and just minutes from WDW? Sign me up! Oh – and did I mention – a much lower price than similar amenities/space at WDW Resorts? Sorry Disney – but at this stage in my life, every penny matters – which is why I am considering heading off property next time I visit. T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Packing For the WDW Parks – My Top 5 “Must Haves”

When you’re getting ready to leave your WDW Resort hotel room and head to the Disney Parks for the day, there are some items you will DEFINITELY want to make sure you bring along with you:

ponchos

PONCHOS are super essential – as it can (and likely will) rain while you’re at the Parks

AK Tree Adults

Sunscreen – apply it often, and be liberal with it. No one wants to get burned as red as Sebastian the crab on your first day at WDW. See how white me and my family are? Well – sunscreen helps us stay that way

WaterBottles

Water bottles – fill them up with water and ice before you head out, and be sure to drink a LOT and refill as needed when at the Parks – as that Florida sun can be brutal, and dehydration is no fun

baggies

Ziploc baggies in assorted sizes – they come in handy for a LOT of things, trust me

Photos MIckeyCAM

Multiple cameras – because you’ll want to capture all the great parts of this vacation, trust me. And yes that is a Mickey film camera – cool, right?

Moral of the story? Be prepared, and you will spend more time having fun on your WDW vacation

My Top 5 WDW Money Saving Tips

Luggage

As much as I love Walt Disney World, I am the first to admit – it is NOT a cheap place to visit – Resort room, park tickets, food, souvenirs, transportation, incidentals…it all adds up QUICK. Luckily, there are some things you can do to help lessen the financial burden that comes with planning a WDW vacation. Check out my top WDW money saving tips:

Sharing Is Caring: WDW has some seriously amazing food – they serve up every style of cuisine you can imagine, and it’s all delicious. Much of it is also very LARGE – their portions tend to be big, and this can be a big plus for you budget-conscious travelers. Many meals are so large that they can be easily shared by two children or even two adults. Check out some sharable meal/snack options here

Stay at a Value Resort: Walt Disney World has a TON of hotels on property, and all offer amazing service and helpful staff, but some are definitely fancier (ie – more expensive!) than others. There are Deluxe, Moderate, and Value level Resorts – with corresponding price levels as well. If you’re on a budget, the Value Resorts are the way to go for you and your family. They are all great places to stay (I should know, as I have stayed at all 5!), and while the rooms are pretty standard (nothing fancy, no frills), they are quite a bit cheaper than the other WDW Resorts, so if cost is your bottom line, the Value Resorts are worth checking out
*Bonusstaying on property will also help save on transportation costs – as Resort guests get complimentary shuttles to/from the Orlando airport via Disney’s Magical Express, and they are also able to utilize all on-site transportation options (boats/monorails/buses) free of cost as well

Plan Ahead: Anything you can do in advance will help you in the long run – researching restaurants (including costs, menus, etc), making lists of things to bring, checking out which rides/shows/foods your family might like, and just overall knowing the lay of the land will help avoid impulse purchases and unnecessary spending (buying a $4 bottle of water when there’s a bathroom/water fountain right around the corner, for example…)

Set A Budget: Use that research and those “planning ahead” skills to come up with rough estimates for costs of: airfare/gas, rental car, food, drinks, hotel, park tickets, and incidentals. Set a souvenir budget for your kids, and one for yourself too – and then make sure you stick to it – no matter HOW much they beg for “just ONE MORE PIN!”, or that giant balloon/stuffed animal/hoodie – trust me, your wallet will thank you – as souvenirs are pretty expensive at WDW, and the cost of just “one more thing” per person adds up QUICKLY

Pack Smart: In addition to making a list FAR in advance of items to pack, I suggest you start packing way in advance too. A few weeks before my trip I will print out my packing list (yes, I type it – don’t judge), and set my suitcase out with items I know I won’t need again before my trip. I also have some “must pack” items – ponchos, sunscreen, park-friendly snacks (trail mix, granola bars, etc – another big money saver!), a water bottle, and comfortable sneakers
Packing Tip – I wear all my “bulkiest” items when flying to save precious suitcase space: sneakers, jeans, and a hoodie are all a part of my standard travel attire, which leaves me more room for other necessities in my bags

Hopefully you can use some (or all!) of the above advice to help you save money on what can otherwise turn into a VERY costly Walt Disney World Trip – and even though I try and save money whenever possible and am all about budgeting, I know that a Disney vacation is worth every penny in the end – the fun you’ll have and the memories you’ll make are items you can’t put a price tag on

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week: “Larger Than Life” Fun Awaits You At The WDW Value Resorts

There are tons of places to stay in and around Walt Disney World – and when it comes to narrowing it down to which one I want to book, I have to say I am partial to the Value Resorts – not only are they the most wallet-friendly (as the name implies!), but they are also really great places to spend some time with your family too – they are all intricately themed, and the décor is really enjoyable too. Check out some of the BIG FUN that awaits you at the WDW Value Resorts:

Now I realize that not everyone is into giant Mr Potato Heads or Mickey Mouse pool fountains, but I think they are great, and I can bet your kids would love them – so why not save some money and stay someplace fun and family friendly like the WDW Value Resorts? I have stayed at them all, and loved every one!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – More Of The Gorgeous Port Orleans Riverside Resort

Last week I showed you a bit what you might see when you stay at Port Orleans Riverside Resort – where my husband was lucky enough to stay earlier this month for a work conference. Today, I wanted to show you just how amazing the rest of the Resort is:
