Disney Trip Countdown: DOWN TO DOUBLE DIGITS!

Castlexmasdaytime

I am officially down to 99 days left until we are back at Walt Disney World, and the excitement is really starting to build! I can’t wait to return to my “second home” and get to enjoy all the attractions, rides, FOOD, characters, and everything else that Disney has to offer!

There is SO MUCH that I am looking forward to, but I tried to narrow it down, and I wanted to share some of them, so here are the Top 5 things I am looking forward to for my WDW vacation (In no particular order):

1. Waking up on Christmas Morning in WALT DISNEY WORLD – how awesome would that be? I am pretty sure I am the envy of all kids everywhere, I mean, who wouldn’t want to wake up at the most magical place on earth?

2. Quality Time with my family – My parents and I always spend Christmas Day together, and this year will be no different – we may not have a tree to put presents under and we may not sit around in our PJ’s opening presents and drinking coffee while the dogs run around causing a roucous – we will still be together and that is the most important thing!

3. The “Christmas Spirit” + that “Disney Magic” – Being at Disney is amazing, they put a huge amount of detail and theming into everything that they do, and when you add Christmas to the mix, it is even better! The decorations, the Christmas music and souvenirs, the Cast Members holiday themed outfits, the seasonal snacks and treats, the live holiday entertainment and events – it truly is a site to behold, and I can’t wait!

4. DISNEY FOOD – Yeah, I know it might seem weird to be looking forward to food this much, but that’s how amazing the food at WDW really is – they have anything and everything you can imagine – all kinds of cuisine, from snacks and treats to five star restaurants with wine pairings, and everything is prepared fresh using only the best ingredients (many of which they grow themselves on site!). If I had to narrow it down to one food/dining experience I am most looking forward to, it would have to be Boma – an African themed buffet located in Disney’s gorgeous Animal Kingdom Lodge, where you can sample traditional African cuisine while you watch the animals roam the savannah

5. An Escape – We need a vacation – between work being busy and the mundane everyday responsibilities of being an adult, we are ready to head to a place where we can feel like kids again, and simply enjoy our time together and have fun too!

When we booked this trip it was almost a year away – so it’s hard to believe that we are under 100 days now! Just need a little more patience to get us through…it will be here soon enough!

Oh – Another thing….this also means that Christmas is just over 100 days away – for me that is exciting, for others of you it might be scary or depressing (considering with Christmas usually comes snow and cold weather, and the need to spend a lot of money on gifts…) – I personally am always in the excited for Christmas camp – and since we are going to WDW for Christmas this year, that makes the Holiday season even more special!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Dreaming of Disney Dining

Castle

My Christmas Disney vacation may still be 6 months away, but luckily, I am almost to the 180 day mark – which means I can make my ADR’s! For those of you who don’t know what that means, in a nutshell – Disney allows you to make dining reservations (similar to a call ahead service) 180 days before your trip for all sit down restaurants. So, I have been busy figuring out where we should eat and when and making my itinerary based on our restaurant choices (does that seem nuts? Maybe it is a little…but oh well!)

So Monday, June 25 is the day – I will be up early and ready to log onto the Disney Dining website, armed with my list….mmm the possibilities are sounding more and more delicious by the minute!

Here are our top picks – with pics!

Crystal Palace

Nothing says “Welcome to The Magic Kingdom” like a delicious breakfast complete with Winnie The Pooh and friends at the Crystal Palace

Ohana

Ohana will be a new restaurant for us – but we hear the dinner is delicious – grilled meats, amazing bread and more – plus some super mouth-watering bread pudding to complete the meal!

boma-2

Boma is now a “must do” for our family – it offers unique African cuisine in a buffet setting for dinner, and the restaurant is located in the beautiful Animal Kingdom Lodge – a great place to do some giraffe-watching!

LTT FOod

A traditional turkey dinner is in order for Christmas Eve – so we decided that the Liberty Tree Tavern would be perfect – they serve turkey and all the trimmings up family style, and the setting allows you to soak up some American History too (check out the artifacts on the walls and the décor!)

1900ParkFare

Christmas Morning breakfast with the Mad Hatter himself? Yes please! Over at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort you will find 1900 Park Fare – a character buffet serving up all the breakfast classics

Another restaurant on our “Must Do” list is Raglan Road Irish Pub – where the beer list is long, and the Irish dancing is the perfect entertainment to accompany the amazing Irish dishes on the menu

via_napoli_pizza

I can’t WAIT to get my mouth on some wood oven pizza at Via Napoli in the Italy Pavillion at Epcot’s World Showcase. Pair it with some Italian vino and you are good to go!

Getting to make the ADR’s 180 days in advance is just another way for me to get to feel more connected to my WDW experience, and it makes me even more excited to head off to the Place Where Dreams Come True! Now if only the next 180 days would fly by….

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – What A View!

There are so many amazing things about Walt Disney World – The Parks The Rides, The Food…..etc…that it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the experience of it all!

Sometimes it’s worthwhile just to step back and take a look at your surroundings – you’ll find there’s really a LOT to see:

TGIF Views AKL

If you choose to stay at WDW’s Animal Kingdom Lodge -this could be the view off your balcony of the savannah, where you can watch the animal roam about (yep, those are giraffes out there!)

TGIF Views Tree AKThe Tree Of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is really something – its amazing to gaze at, but I also suggest that you get up close and personal with it and check out all the amazing animal engravings and designs – it’s a real work of art

TGIF Views CaliGrillThe view from the balcony at California Grill at the top of the Contemporary Resort – you can really see it all, and it’s quite the spot for firework viewing too!

TGIF Views MainStAnd my all time personal favorite view – standing at the base of Main Street, where you can get a great view of Cinderella’s Castle. Standing here makes me feel like I have come home

Talk about some great views!

10 Not To Miss Disney Foods

I talk a lot about the food at Walt Disney World, and that’s because there is a LOT to say about it! It’s one of the things I look forward to most about WDW – planning my meals, making my ADR’s, and reading the Disney Food Blog to learn all about the new snacks they will have in store for me when I go!

Everyone has their personal favorite Disney food items, and I have compiled a list of ones that I think everyone should try:

Butterfinger1. Butterfinger Cupcake – Moist chocolate cake with a fudge center, piled high with fluffy vanilla frosting, and a chocolate and butterfinger shell – these things are massive, and delicious too – they are available at Starring Roles Cafe over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

PrimeRib2. Prime Rib at Cinderella’s Royal Table – My husband says this is the best prime rib he has ever had – perfectly cooked and seasoned, and not to mention huge! I will take his word for it, and I also suggest you check out CRT, located in the Castle at the Magic Kingdom – you get to dine with the Princesses and enjoy some royally amazing food. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and this place will definitely bring out your inner prince/princess!

3. Chicken Tenders – Ok, I know what you are thinking, really, chicken nuggets on a top 10 list? Well, call me crazy but i just love the nuggets they serve at various counter service locations around WDW – they are always moist on the inside, crispy and hot on the outside, and there is that little spice of black pepper in the breading that gives it just a bit of a kick. Grab some honey mustard and dip away – you won’t regret it, trust me

MickeyBar4. Mickey Ice Cream Bar – It doesn’t get much more classic than this – creamy vanilla ice cream covered in a layer of chocolate, shaped like a famous Mouse? Count me in – but you better be quick about it, or that Florida sun will melt Mickey all over your hand! Not that eating it fast is an issue – it’s so yummy it will disappear before your very eyes!

ZebraDome5. Zebra Domes – A creamy “adults only” dessert that consists of a kahlua mousse with a hint of chocolate…these are so good! They are only available at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and can be enjoyed at Boma or at AKL’s counter service restaurant, the Mara

6. Bobotie – It’s an authentic African dish made of spiced ground meat, baked with an egg topping. Think quiche, but more savory and flavorful, with hints of exotic spice and an almost cornbread like topping – you can score some of this winner at AKL’s Boma buffet

7. Pooh’s Breakfast Lasagna  – Head over to the Crystal Palace for a delicious buffet breakfast with Pooh and Friends, and sample this amazing concontion, comprised of pound cake, waffles, pancakes, pastry cream, custard, berries, and bananas. It reminds me of a berry bread pudding, and is amazing. If you’re adventurous, you can attempt this at home – personally, I will wait for Pooh to make it for me

8. Mickey Waffles – A staple of any WDW breakfast, these crispy on the outside soft and hot on the inside gems come in small and large sizes, and can be found all around the World. They have the perfect ratio of crunch to soft, and the best thing about them? They are shaped like a smiling Mickey, and are pretty much the cutest things ever. I like to start with the ears, personally

9. Salted Caramels – I am pretty much obsessed with salted caramels, and am happy to see that Disney has a few ways to feed my obsession – one place caramel lovers need to check out is Karamel Kuche over in the Germany area of Epcot’s World Showcase. They specialize in all things gooey and caramel-y, from fresh caramel corn to caramel drizzled cookies – to my beloved salted caramels, covered in either milk or dark chocolate. I also spotted some bagged Goofy’s Candy Company Salted Caramels at many spots around the World, and picked up some of these to enjoy at home – the caramel was nice and soft and a perfect amount of salt was on each one…needless to say, they didn’t make it all the way home

10. Bread and Butter Pudding at Raglan Road – Raglan Road (LINK) is an amazing place to eat (and drink!) in true Irish fashion. Their Bangers and Mash and Fish and Chips are delightful, and if you have any room after dinner, I suggest you try the Bread and Butter pudding – a bread pudding studded with golden raisins and served hot with vanilla and rum sauces on the side – its huge, and tastes like home – comfort food at it’s finest

Insider Tip: If you’re looking to mix it up, I suggest you attempt the 100 Disney Foods To Try Challenge, it is a great way to expand your dining horizons!

Ok, now I am starving…good thing it’s lunch time!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – More Favorite Disney Things

Last Week I talked about some of my favorite Disney things, including Character Hugs, Mickey Waffles, and the View down Main Street of Cinderella’s Castle. Well, my mind was wandering to all things Disney today (as it so often does!), and I realized there are a WHOLE lot more Disney Things to Love, and this time I wanted to focus on some of the ones I love as an Adult Walt Disney World vacationer:

Trying out the different yummy Adult Beverages available at many WDW restaurants, including sampling some of the beers on the extensive list available at Raglan Road Irish Pub

Savannah

Enjoying the View of the Savannah at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, something I love doing and I always try and arrive early for my dinner reservation at Boma so I can catch a glimpse of the animals!

WShowcase

Taking my time to stroll around Epcot’s World Showcase and really soak in the culture and detail that is imbedded within each country (something I did NOT care much for when I was a kid, but can really appreciate and enjoy as an adult!)

Boma – Why You Should Go

;

Boma is an African inspired buffet located at the beautiful Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort At Walt Disney World, and it serves breakfast and dinner daily.
It’s a great place to go for a lot of reasons, here are just some of them:

Food: Like I said, its African inspired, so much of the cuisine is African influenced – with salads, hummus, soups, carved and grilled meats and yummy desserts, everyone will find something they like here. What really stands out food wise though is the freshness-everything tastes like it was made just for you, right at that very moment

A Giraffe grazing on the savannah outside the Lodge

Location: The restaurant is located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is a gorgeous place full of dark wood and beautiful soft lighting. Arrive a little early for your meal and you can step outside for some views of the savannah – complete with roaming animals! After your meal, be sure to stop by the Resort’s gift shop, which offers many items that I have never seen anywhere else at WDW, like these instruments as well as some unique jewelry

The family that plays together, stays together!

Bar: Should you arrive early, stop at the Victoria Falls Lounge (located upstairs from Boma) for some unique and delicious cocktails. They really had an interesting menu with drink choices and combinations I have never seen before. We all tried a different drink and loved them all!

;

Boma is one of those places that people shy away from, they hear “African cuisine” and they get nervous, but this is such a great place, and I am so glad I got over my fear of the unknown and gave it a shot, as it is now one of our “must do’s” on all our Disney trips!
