T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Feeling “Spring-y” Thanks To The Epcot Flower And Garden Festival!

It’s almost April, it’s officially been Spring for almost a week now – and to me, this is a big deal. Not because I love spring (I actually don’t, oddly enough), but because this winter has been BRUTAL for the Northeast US – and I am SO over it. All of the signs of spring give me hope – including the signs that are popping up at WDW – like the 2014 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival – a sure sign of Spring, this annual festival runs from March 5th -May 18th, and features beautiful topiaries, thousands of flowers, amazing landscaping, presentations by your favorite HGTV stars, and tons of great food too! The food part is relatively new, as the festival has started to add more “food booths” – featuring fresh and locally grown produce delivered in new and delicious ways!

Here is just some of what you can expect to see at this year’s festival:

Which WDW Special Event Is Right For Me?

Castlexmasdaytime

Going to Walt Disney World is the most fun vacation ever (well, at least I think so!) – and I love everything about it. Having been several times, I am always looking forward to what new and exciting things await me on my next trip – and sometimes I like to check out some of the special events offered at Disney – here are some of the most popular ones, which will hopefully help you choose if any of them would be right for you and your family:

Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival: Runs from March-May each year, and features brilliant displays of flowers, topiaries, and special dining options that offer dishes created from the fresh, local produce showcased in the festival. It’s hosted by HGTV, so there are tons of workshops, demonstrations, and shows offered too that feature your favorite HGTV stars. This one is a must-do for all of you with green thumbs out there – and for those of you who aren’t so inclined (like me!), don’t worry, you can still enjoy the beautiful landscaping and delicious dining options available!

Epcot International Food and Wine Festival: This fall event delivers big on flavor (as its name promises!), and features dozens of different food booths that showcase cuisine from all over the globe. You can literally spend all day grazing through Epcot and trying new and different dishes paired with exotic wines – and you can also check out the cooking demonstrations by famous chefs – now if that’s not a foodies dream come true than I don’t know what is!

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party: Held on various nights in September and October in the Magic Kingdom, the party features characters in costume, a special parade, and of course trick-or-treating and candy! Guests are encouraged to dress in appropriate (aka not too scary or revealing) costumes to help get them in the Halloween Spirit! And of course the Magic Kingdom is all decked out in fall finery – with leaves and pumpkins everywhere! Characters you don’t normally get to see come out for this event too, and many of them even dress in costume as well!

Run Disney Events: Disney hosts a variety of half marathon, 5k, and fun run events throughout the year – a great excuse to get a team together and train, and what a perfect reason to get in shape, a trip to Disney! It’s a fun time with plenty of characters, and some really cool medals too! I personally have considered taking up running just so I could run in the Princess half marathon and wear a tutu while running around beautiful WDW! But then I remember how long a half marathon is…and I change my mind ha

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party: This special party is held during November and December at the Magic Kingdom, and it features characters (and the man himself – SANTA!), a festive parade, free cookies and cocoa, live entertainment, and best of all – they make it SNOW on Main Street! Ok, so its not real and its made of soap – but still, snow?! In DISNEY!! We attended this party in 2011, and I really enjoyed it – the atmosphere was great, and the parade was really well done. Oh, and did I mention there were cookies? Mmm….cookie…

These events usually require some planning – you will want to make hotel reservations far in advance, and grab your special event tickets as soon as possible too so that you can ensure that you will be enjoying all that these events have to offer!

Personally? I LOVE LOVE Disney at Christmas time – there is nothing better than the décor, the food, and the atmosphere – and to me its worth braving the LARGE crowds to enjoy it all. What about you – what events would you love to check out at WDW?

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Mickey’s Pumpkins “Earn Their Ears”

We are in the middle of my favorite time of year – fall! I absolutely LOVE the season and all that comes with it – apples, leaves, cool weather, and especially PUMPKINS! That orange squash is delicious and decorative, and has a ton of uses. One thing you may not know about pumpkins is that Walt Disney World grows their own – over in Epcot you’ll find the Living With The Land attraction – a boat ride that takes you through 4 greenhouses, where you’ll see a fish farm, as well as high tech and experimental growing techniques on display

Land

Land Produce1

What once needed soil to grown can now grow on trees, vines, and in water – pretty cool right?

Lemon

Nine pound lemon anyone?

Cuc

Or perhaps a Mickey shaped cucumber? This one is not quite ready, but once it is, it will be delicious (and mouse shaped!)

MickeyPumpkinHere is my favorite part – the Mickey Pumpkin! These are grown in the greenhouses, and if you look in the background you can see other pumpkins that are still growing into their Mickey shaped molds, with signs that proclaim that they are “earning their ears”!

The produce grown here as well as the seafood can be tasted at the two restaurants housed within the Land – Sunshine Seasons and the Garden Grill restaurant – and the pumpkins can be found in a seasonal favorite – pumpkin soup! What a perfect way to warm up on a rainy fall day – yum!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Starbucks Has Landed!

Last April, the news that Starbuck’s was coming to the Disney Parks caused quite a stir – some people were outraged that Starbuck’s would be replacing existing spots like the Main Street Bakery, while others were thrilled that they would finally be able to get a decent cup of coffee at the Disney Parks

Here is a peek at what the New Starbucks locations look like at Walt Disney World:

InsideBakery

The Main Street Bakery in the Magic Kingdom still has that old time charm inside

BakeryCase

The Main Street Bakery still sells baked goods, some are the typical Starbuck’s scones/cakes, but Disney originals are mixed in there too!

Fountain View at Epcot Reopens; Includes Starbucks Products

Fountainview Café in Epcot has been overhauled too – and now serves Starbuck’s beverages and snacks

Disney-World-Starbucks-Cup1

Obviously they can’t just have a regular old Starbuck’s cup, gotta incorporate the Mouse in there too somehow, right?

Looks pretty nice, right?

Personally, I am somewhere in the middle of loving and hating the idea of Starbucks invading Disney – I mean, they are everywhere else already, so why not at Disney, right? And I do love a good latte, so I think this is likely a good change, and I look forward to checking it out in person when I head to WDW this December!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Dreaming of Disney Dining

Castle

My Christmas Disney vacation may still be 6 months away, but luckily, I am almost to the 180 day mark – which means I can make my ADR’s! For those of you who don’t know what that means, in a nutshell – Disney allows you to make dining reservations (similar to a call ahead service) 180 days before your trip for all sit down restaurants. So, I have been busy figuring out where we should eat and when and making my itinerary based on our restaurant choices (does that seem nuts? Maybe it is a little…but oh well!)

So Monday, June 25 is the day – I will be up early and ready to log onto the Disney Dining website, armed with my list….mmm the possibilities are sounding more and more delicious by the minute!

Here are our top picks – with pics!

Crystal Palace

Nothing says “Welcome to The Magic Kingdom” like a delicious breakfast complete with Winnie The Pooh and friends at the Crystal Palace

Ohana

Ohana will be a new restaurant for us – but we hear the dinner is delicious – grilled meats, amazing bread and more – plus some super mouth-watering bread pudding to complete the meal!

boma-2

Boma is now a “must do” for our family – it offers unique African cuisine in a buffet setting for dinner, and the restaurant is located in the beautiful Animal Kingdom Lodge – a great place to do some giraffe-watching!

LTT FOod

A traditional turkey dinner is in order for Christmas Eve – so we decided that the Liberty Tree Tavern would be perfect – they serve turkey and all the trimmings up family style, and the setting allows you to soak up some American History too (check out the artifacts on the walls and the décor!)

1900ParkFare

Christmas Morning breakfast with the Mad Hatter himself? Yes please! Over at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort you will find 1900 Park Fare – a character buffet serving up all the breakfast classics

DSCN0397

Another restaurant on our “Must Do” list is Raglan Road Irish Pub – where the beer list is long, and the Irish dancing is the perfect entertainment to accompany the amazing Irish dishes on the menu

via_napoli_pizza

I can’t WAIT to get my mouth on some wood oven pizza at Via Napoli in the Italy Pavillion at Epcot’s World Showcase. Pair it with some Italian vino and you are good to go!

Getting to make the ADR’s 180 days in advance is just another way for me to get to feel more connected to my WDW experience, and it makes me even more excited to head off to the Place Where Dreams Come True! Now if only the next 180 days would fly by….

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – The Mouse’s Leading Lady

Minnie has been making us smile for years – and I have to admit she is a personal favorite of mine, and whenever I go to WDW, I make it a point to seek her out and have my picture taken with her. Her dress, her shoes, her bow, her polka dots – she is a fashion icon!

TGIF Minnie EpcotIn Epcot, you can meet up with Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, and Goofy at the Epcot Character Spot!

TGIF Minnie ChefMickeysThe fab five also make a daily appearance for breakfast and dinner over at the family-friendly Chef Mickey’s restaurant – the food is served buffet-style and you can enjoy the eats while the characters make the rounds for pictures, hugs, and autographs!

TGIF Minnie CaliMinnie hosts a character buffet breakfast at the Plaza Inn in Disneyland – she even dons a cute apron for the occasion!

TGIF Minnie OldAnd what tribute to Minnie Mouse would be complete without an adorable old school flashback shot (circa late 80’s)? Note my mom’s perm – gotta love the big hair!

Hope these made you smile!
