Happy 59th Birthday To The Iconic Disneyland Park!

DisneylandOpeningDay

Today marks the 59th anniversary of the opening of Walt’s dream come true – the original Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California. If you’ve never been, then I highly recommend you make the trip there at least once in your lifetime. It’s where the magic all started, and where Walt himself gave the opening day speech that included the words “To All who come to this happy place – welcome!”

Check out some Disney facts and history here. Happy 59 years to Disneyland, and here’s to many, MANY more!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Cool Off This Summer With These Delicious Disney Frozen Drinks

Tomorrow marks the first official day of SUMMER – which means trips to the beach, cookouts, fresh cut grass, family vacations (to DISNEY WORLD perhaps?) and most of all – it means long, HOT days. I am always looking for ways to cool off in the summer, and one way I like to do it is with super cold frozen drinks – what could be better on a hot day than an ice cold slushy beverage? Oh – well, one thing that would make it better is if you happened to be enjoying said beverage while at the Happiest Place On Earth – and luckily, they offer quite the selection of delicious frozen drinks to choose from:

 FrozenLemonade

The classic frozen lemonade is available at all the Parks – from Disneyland to Disney World, you’ll find this in its classic lemon flavor, and strawberry, raspberry, and other varieties pop up from time to time too!

StoplightMargarita

Frozen margarita anyone? This adults only frozen beverage is not only super cold and delicious (times 3 different flavors!), but its fun to look at too! You can get this at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

LefouBrew2

Gaston’s Tavern is home to “LeFou’s Brew” – an apple flavored slush (available with optional souvenir cup!)

DoleWhipFloat

You could always stick with a classic and grab a Dole Whip Float – pineapple soft serve balanced on top of delicious pineapple juice – what a sweet treat

Glaciers

Over at Goofy’s Candy Company in Downtown Disney, you can customize your own frozen drink by picking from a bunch of flavors and mixing them together!

GoofysGlaciersCups

Oh, and you can make your own cup too – with a ton of awesome base/cup options!

Hopefully you’re gearing up for summer and all the great fun that comes along with it – and if you’re lucky enough to be heading to the Disney Parks this summer, be sure to keep cool with these delicious drinks!

I FINALLY Saw Saving Mr. Banks – And LOVED IT!

Saving Mr banks

Ok, so I am a bit behind in my movie viewing – but I finally saw Saving Mr. Banks last night – and I LOVED IT! I honestly was holding off as I wasn’t sure how I would like it – I had seen clips and previews and I knew how Emma Thompson would be portraying PL Travers – I knew she would be tough and unlikeable, so I honestly didn’t know if I wanted to bother with it – But I am glad I did! The story was heartfelt and I even shed a few tears (don’t judge me!)

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the story, here’s a rundown: it’s set in the 1960’s, and the premise is that Walt Disney (played by the always charismatic Tom Hanks) is trying to convince author PL Travers to allow him to purchase the rights to her Mary Poppins character and story. This has been going on for 20 years of him trying to convince her, and finally she agrees to come to Walt Disney Studios in California and meet with him. She is stubborn to a fault with her vision for the movie, with crazy demands and script changes, as we watch the story come together through bits of song (familiar ones like “Let’s go fly a kite” and “A Spoonful of Sugar”), drawings, flashbacks, and arguments. PL Travers is hesitant to give up the story partly due to her troubled past – a past we see unfold and one that Walt sympathizes with and that allows him to connect with her on a deeper level.

Without being too much of a spoiler, I wanted to share my favorite moment of the movie. PL Travers arrives in LA and walks into her hotel suite, which is filled with Disney merchandise – stuffed Mickeys, Minnies, Goofys, Donald, Chip and Dale – the whole gang is there to welcome her. She is of course disgusted by this silly display and shoves it all in the closet. Just when she thinks she is done, she walks into the bedroom to find a GIANT Mickey Mouse stuffed toy on the bed!

The movie truly did a great job combining humor and drama into the movie, and it truly was a great film. I highly recommend you rent it today!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Disney-fy your family game night!

I don’t know about you, but I personally love board games – pretty much any of them, from chutes and ladders to scrabble and my personal fave – Yahtzee! I usually have to coerce my husband into playing with me, but once we get started he usually has a pretty good time! So it goes without saying that if I see a Disney themed board game, I am most likely going to buy it (which might explain why we have two huge stacks of board games at home…). Check out some of these awesome classics with a Disney twist:

   Games Triv Pursuit

This Disney version of Trivial Pursuit includes questions about Disney movies, Disney channel shows, and the Disney Parks, so it’s got a really good variety of questions for those of all ages

Games Life

I am a huge fan of the game of Life – and add in some doom buggies and ghosts and I am there! My husband especially enjoys playing this one

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

With A Disney themed board and Mickey Ears adorned playing pieces, this is a great choice for kids (ok, and adults too, I admit – I own this)

Games Cards

Spice up a game of go fish or solitaire with these Disney playing cards

Games Yahtzee

A Muppet version of my favorite game? YES PLEASE!

All of these (and more!) are available at the Disney Parks, or you can find plenty more on amazon and ebay too

Happy gaming, and TGIF!

Alex And Ani Disney Styles Are Fashionable And Fun For All Disney Lovers!

alex-and-ani3

For those of you who haven’t heard of Alex and Ani, they are a jewelry company with amazing designs and Made In America products – and they are currently THE HOT THING – they look great stacked together and you definitely can’t have just one (brilliant marketing on their part, don’t you think?)

They have tons of amazing designs available online through their website, and not only are they Made In America but there are a bunch of styles whose profits benefit various charities (a bracelet that supports homeless pets? Yes please!). I love spending time browsing their selections – but I have to admit, there is really only one collection that I am interested in – and it’s not available through their website…

alexanidis2

And that would be the Alex and Ani Disney collection of course – how beautiful are these? They come in several designs – Mickey, Minnie, Castle (both Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella designs), Cinderella, and birthstone selections – among others – are available at the Disney Parks as well as through the Disney Store website. I learned of these via a friend’s Instagram while I was at WDW – which is lucky, as I was able to stalk all the stores in the Parks for the designs I wanted!

AlexAniMine

I snatched up a Minnie first, and actually couldn’t find the Castle anywhere in the Parks – but was able to order it from the Disney Store (luckily!). Check out all the amazing styles here. Hmm, now I just need to figure out which one to get next…decisions, decisions…
