T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week: Have Some FROZEN Fun This Summer!

Ok, I will admit – I did NOT love the movie Frozen the first time I saw it, and I didn’t understand the hype – the millions of kids singing “let it go”, the mad rush and frenzy for Elsa and Anna costumes, the 300 minute wait at Disney World to greet the Princesses – it all seemed a bit excessive to me. But, I figured – I should give the movie another chance, maybe I am missing something?

I watched it again, and while I can’t say I will be jumping in that long line to greet the stars of the movie, I DID really like it more the second time! I liked it so much that I started seeking out some treats and treasures based on the blockbuster hit…

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Happy 4th Of July!

   Disney-4th-of-July

Happy Independence Day! I hope everyone is getting a chance to enjoy the warm weather, attend some picnics, and that you’re enjoying a day off from work (I know I am!). But more than that – I hope you remember what this day is about – and that without those who fought for our freedom, we wouldn’t be here today!

It’s a great holiday isn’t it? BBQ’s and fireworks and sparklers and red white and blue…and Mickey? Yes – it’s possible to even infuse some Disney into your 4th of July celebrations with these easy DIY Disney crafts:

MinnieHeadband

Wouldn’t this be a cute headband for your favorite little Mouseketeer to wear on the 4th?

Coloring 4th

And what kid (or adult!) wouldn’t love to color this adorable scene?

StarfishCOokies

And since you will probably need to make something to bring to that family picnic, why not whip up Ariel’s adorable Starfish cookies?

New Airline Carry-on Size Restrictions Can’t Ruin MY Magical Disney Trip!

Luggage

Between United Airlines enforcing their carry on baggage size limits, and the recent security checkpoint monitoring of luggage sizes, it’s enough to turn the start of any trip into a disaster! New rules even further limit the size of your carry-on luggage on major airlines like Delta, United, and American (with smaller ones being sure to follow suit soon, I’m sure!), and not only that, but they are actually enforcing the size limits too, which is something that was never really consistently done in the past.

Obviously I understand that people can’t be bringing huge bags on as carry ons – as its totally not fair to those of us who have always followed the (previously unenforced) rules – but now you’re telling me that the rolling luggage I have been toting for the past 5 years, that I purposely researched and scoured the internet for to make sure I got one that fit ALL airline size restrictions – is now too big to carry on? Well – ok. Breath, and regroup – I will NOT be letting this ruin my future trips to Walt Disney World – it just means I have to be smarter about how I pack. How will I do this? Well – I have a few tried and true tricks up my sleeve…

-Wear the big stuff: I always bring one pair of jeans, one pair of sneakers, and one hoodie to Disney with me – and I always wear them to the airport – even if it’s warm out, chances are good it will be cold in the airports/on the planes, and this saves me a TON of suitcase space!

-If I can get it online, I will WAIT to Buy it: There are so many great Disney souvenirs that I have serious trouble not buying ALL of them – and with even less suitcase space, I will be bringing even less home with me, but the good news is a lot of the same items can be purchased via the Disney Store’s website (they even have a Disney Parks Products section!). So I wait until I am home (or in the airport waiting for my flight home anyway…) and then I order some of the larger souvenir items online instead

-Keep it Casual: Disney isn’t exactly a fancy place, so there’s not much need for dresses or heels or button down shirts- t shirts and shorts will do for most people, and I like to stick to that idea when I am packing – nothing fancy, and just 1 shirt per day (you don’t need more than one, trust me)

-Don’t forget about your “personal item”: in addition to your carry on piece of luggage, each passenger is allowed 1 personal item too – basically anything that will fit under the seat in front of you is allowable – a large purse, tote bag, or even a backpack will all work – and I take full advantage of this and make sure I bring my biggest purse and stuff it full of snacks, books, magazines, and a change of clothes (just in case they make me check my 1 inch too large carry on suitcase…)

I stopped checking luggage a few years ago – so I have really been working on perfecting my carry-on packing – and I can say from experience that it really is possible to get everything you need for a week at Disney in a carry on suitcase and a purse/backpack. As for these new regulations, I say bring it on! I love a challenge, and I will do my best to get everything in my carry-on items, and even if I can’t or they tell me I have to check them – at least the end result is still the same – a vacation at the Happiest Place On Earth! What about you – do you avoid checking luggage when you head to WDW?

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Disney Baby Girl Styles That Will Make You Swoon!

This holiday weekend my husband and I are lucky enough to be traveling to Virginia to visit one of our closest couple friends – and their BRAND NEW BABY! She was born last month and I cannot WAIT to cuddle her and cover her in kisses! Oh, and as she grows, there will be much spoiling too – partially in the form of clothes – and how can I be expected to help myself when items this adorable exist?

BabyGirl4 BabyGirl3 BabyGirl2 BabyGirl 1

All of these are available at Target, which is great because I am in there multiple times a week anyway! Wal-mart also has tons of stuff, check out their Disney selection In Their Character Clothing Shop !

I will likely be buying all of these (and more!) for my friend’s baby – I mean who can resist them?

BabyGirl Jess

I may have gotten here these already for her baby shower – her favorite Disney movie is The Little Mermaid, so I figured these Disney Store finds would be appropriate. Can’t wait to see her little girl wearing them!

Happy Memorial Day, and TGIF!

I FINALLY Saw Saving Mr. Banks – And LOVED IT!

Saving Mr banks

Ok, so I am a bit behind in my movie viewing – but I finally saw Saving Mr. Banks last night – and I LOVED IT! I honestly was holding off as I wasn’t sure how I would like it – I had seen clips and previews and I knew how Emma Thompson would be portraying PL Travers – I knew she would be tough and unlikeable, so I honestly didn’t know if I wanted to bother with it – But I am glad I did! The story was heartfelt and I even shed a few tears (don’t judge me!)

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the story, here’s a rundown: it’s set in the 1960’s, and the premise is that Walt Disney (played by the always charismatic Tom Hanks) is trying to convince author PL Travers to allow him to purchase the rights to her Mary Poppins character and story. This has been going on for 20 years of him trying to convince her, and finally she agrees to come to Walt Disney Studios in California and meet with him. She is stubborn to a fault with her vision for the movie, with crazy demands and script changes, as we watch the story come together through bits of song (familiar ones like “Let’s go fly a kite” and “A Spoonful of Sugar”), drawings, flashbacks, and arguments. PL Travers is hesitant to give up the story partly due to her troubled past – a past we see unfold and one that Walt sympathizes with and that allows him to connect with her on a deeper level.

Without being too much of a spoiler, I wanted to share my favorite moment of the movie. PL Travers arrives in LA and walks into her hotel suite, which is filled with Disney merchandise – stuffed Mickeys, Minnies, Goofys, Donald, Chip and Dale – the whole gang is there to welcome her. She is of course disgusted by this silly display and shoves it all in the closet. Just when she thinks she is done, she walks into the bedroom to find a GIANT Mickey Mouse stuffed toy on the bed!

The movie truly did a great job combining humor and drama into the movie, and it truly was a great film. I highly recommend you rent it today!
