T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Feeling “Spring-y” Thanks To The Epcot Flower And Garden Festival!

It’s almost April, it’s officially been Spring for almost a week now – and to me, this is a big deal. Not because I love spring (I actually don’t, oddly enough), but because this winter has been BRUTAL for the Northeast US – and I am SO over it. All of the signs of spring give me hope – including the signs that are popping up at WDW – like the 2014 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival – a sure sign of Spring, this annual festival runs from March 5th -May 18th, and features beautiful topiaries, thousands of flowers, amazing landscaping, presentations by your favorite HGTV stars, and tons of great food too! The food part is relatively new, as the festival has started to add more “food booths” – featuring fresh and locally grown produce delivered in new and delicious ways!

Here is just some of what you can expect to see at this year’s festival:

Flowers, characters made of flowers, delicious food, rum spiked dole whips – what a way to celebrate spring!

Which WDW Special Event Is Right For Me?

Castlexmasdaytime

Going to Walt Disney World is the most fun vacation ever (well, at least I think so!) – and I love everything about it. Having been several times, I am always looking forward to what new and exciting things await me on my next trip – and sometimes I like to check out some of the special events offered at Disney – here are some of the most popular ones, which will hopefully help you choose if any of them would be right for you and your family:

Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival: Runs from March-May each year, and features brilliant displays of flowers, topiaries, and special dining options that offer dishes created from the fresh, local produce showcased in the festival. It’s hosted by HGTV, so there are tons of workshops, demonstrations, and shows offered too that feature your favorite HGTV stars. This one is a must-do for all of you with green thumbs out there – and for those of you who aren’t so inclined (like me!), don’t worry, you can still enjoy the beautiful landscaping and delicious dining options available!

Epcot International Food and Wine Festival: This fall event delivers big on flavor (as its name promises!), and features dozens of different food booths that showcase cuisine from all over the globe. You can literally spend all day grazing through Epcot and trying new and different dishes paired with exotic wines – and you can also check out the cooking demonstrations by famous chefs – now if that’s not a foodies dream come true than I don’t know what is!

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party: Held on various nights in September and October in the Magic Kingdom, the party features characters in costume, a special parade, and of course trick-or-treating and candy! Guests are encouraged to dress in appropriate (aka not too scary or revealing) costumes to help get them in the Halloween Spirit! And of course the Magic Kingdom is all decked out in fall finery – with leaves and pumpkins everywhere! Characters you don’t normally get to see come out for this event too, and many of them even dress in costume as well!

Run Disney Events: Disney hosts a variety of half marathon, 5k, and fun run events throughout the year – a great excuse to get a team together and train, and what a perfect reason to get in shape, a trip to Disney! It’s a fun time with plenty of characters, and some really cool medals too! I personally have considered taking up running just so I could run in the Princess half marathon and wear a tutu while running around beautiful WDW! But then I remember how long a half marathon is…and I change my mind ha

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party: This special party is held during November and December at the Magic Kingdom, and it features characters (and the man himself – SANTA!), a festive parade, free cookies and cocoa, live entertainment, and best of all – they make it SNOW on Main Street! Ok, so its not real and its made of soap – but still, snow?! In DISNEY!! We attended this party in 2011, and I really enjoyed it – the atmosphere was great, and the parade was really well done. Oh, and did I mention there were cookies? Mmm….cookie…

These events usually require some planning – you will want to make hotel reservations far in advance, and grab your special event tickets as soon as possible too so that you can ensure that you will be enjoying all that these events have to offer!

Personally? I LOVE LOVE Disney at Christmas time – there is nothing better than the décor, the food, and the atmosphere – and to me its worth braving the LARGE crowds to enjoy it all. What about you – what events would you love to check out at WDW?

The Top Three Best Things About Walt Disney World At Christmastime

I was lucky enough to get to travel to Walt Disney World the week of Christmas this year – and it was probably one of the most amazing experiences of my life! Getting to combine two things I love very much (Christmas and Disney World of course!) was definitely a dream come true! There are tons of amazing things to see/do at Disney during the holiday season, but I have to say these three are my absolute favorites:

CakePop

1. The FOODDisney Food is always amazing – but at Christmas time they make it even more special! With awesome treats and special meals – I personally enjoyed the colorful baked goods available on Main Street (like this adorable Mickey snowman cake pop!), but trust me there’s plenty more where that came from! Many WDW restaurants offer special meals during the holiday, or add special dishes to their buffets to make the season that much more magical (and delicious!)

Osb Lights1

2. The Osbourne Lights – I know I have recently talked about how awesome the Osbourne Spectacle of Dancing Lights are, but I truly can’t say it enough. They are absolutely amazing – watching the street go from bare and boring to bright and cheery was probably the best thing about this whole vacation for me – the lights blinked in time to music, and it even ‘snowed’! We saw them light up on Christmas Day, and the experience was so Christmas-y and special – I wish I could afford to make it a yearly Christmas tradition!

GbreadMen with Coffee

3. The Shopping – I love shopping, so anytime you combine that with Disney and Christmas? Please, me and my credit cards stand no chance against the sheer volume of amazing Disney Christmas souvenirs available at the Parks. My personaly favorite? The Mickey Gingerbread man mix that comes with a Mickey Gingerbread man cookie cutter!

I will forever cherish all the memories I was lucky enough to get to make this past Christmas – and if you ever have the chance to check out Disney at Christmastime – I highly suggest you take it! Aside from my three favorite things about it, theres also tons of beautiful décor, live musical performances, appearances by Santa Claus, and of course that Christmas Spirit is always in the air!

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Enjoying Gingerbread Mickeys At Home!

I am always looking for ways to enjoy Disney at home – whether it be framed trip photos hanging on the walls, Christmas ornaments commemorating the fun times, or making treats that remind me of Disney – I will do what I can to keep that Disney Magic alive until I can go on my next Disney World trip!

GbreadCookieMix

One of the (many!) souvenirs I picked up last month while at Disney World was this Gingerbread cookie mix. To be honest, I could care less about the mix – it was the cookie cutter I was really after here!

GbreadCookieEating

Mickey Gingerbread men are found around the Parks during the holidays, in both Gingerbread and Sugar cookie form – and when I saw this mix with the accompanying cutter, I knew I had to take it home with me

Baking is one of my favorite things to do (I love it so much I even blog about it) – and so I never miss a chance to get in the kitchen and whip up a tasty treat for my friends and family (ok, and myself too!)

GbreadCuttingout

The mix was easy to make and roll out – and then I got to cut out the cute Mickey hat wearing men!

Gbreadmen Oven

They looked so cute on the cookie sheets, and they smelled the house with a DELICIOUS Christmas-y scent!

GbreadMen with Coffee

The best part was getting to EAT them – ears first of course! They were not too “ginger-y”, I would say more of a cross between gingerbread and a sugar cookie

I love souvenirs like this – delicious and a great way to relive all the great Disney memories! What about you – what’s your favorite vacation souvenir?

T.G.I.F. Pic Of The Week – Osbourne Lights Are Truly A Sight To Behold!

I just returned from a week at Walt Disney World and I am missing it already! Getting to spend Christmas at WDW is something I didn’t think I would ever get to do – and I am SO grateful that I got to spend it there with my husband and my parents.

There was one thing I was particularly excited for on this trip – and that was to get to see the millions of Christmas lights come to life at the Osbourne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I had heard and read about it, and when we were in Disney in December of 2011, we missed seeing it – so I could not WAIT to check it out

Osb Before

Osb Switchkid

We went over to the unlit display about an hour before dusk on Christmas day to get a good spot right in the middle of it all, and when the switch was flipped (by an adorable little girl assisted by Santa Goofy!) let’s just say that we were NOT disappointed…

The lights moved in time to Christmas music, and they even made it snow! This was the perfect Christmas Day activity – and I was so glad to get to see them light up – it was a magical experience for sure, and one I am so grateful to finally have gotten to see and share with my family!
